His daughter, Aurora, must pick up the pieces and find a way to overcome financial ruin as the only woman dredge operator on the Bering Sea. Forced to hire Ben, a mysterious former Navy diver, Aurora suspects he may have a criminal background. As she uncovers the dark truth surrounding his past, Aurora comes face-to-face with her burgeoning feelings for the man—and some in the small, isolated Alaska town aren’t happy about it. Her digging unearths a painful truth about the legacy of her father: a legendary figure in Nome. For Aurora, another lie connected to her seemingly cursed family background pushes her over the edge. Driven by curiosity and a need for the truth, Aurora, with the aid of her best friend, is drawn deeper and deeper into the mystery. But time is running out, the danger is running high, and getting on the gold may be her only salvation.

Gold written by Ian Neligh and has been published by Graphic Arts Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-03 with History categories.

"Uncovers a centuries-long story of obsession that often included murder, gun fights, deadly accidents, overnight fortunes and even cannibalism. . . Neligh is a practiced writer whose style mixes history and modern realities seamlessly." -Colorado Country Life Gold! brings together the story of this metal’s glittering legacy in the Centennial State and the madness, murder, and mayhem that came along with it. The book examines the rich history of the miners and treasure hunters who came to face danger and hardships in the unforgiving Rocky Mountains. This story is unique in that it takes a look at the phenomenon of gold, the treasure hunters, both modern and historic, and brings them to life in a detailed and sharp narrative. Author Ian Neligh spent a year meeting with experts and enthusiasts, hearing their stories and trying to understand why it is they continue to do what they do—often in the face of extreme hardship. Modern-day gold miners profiled include Al Mosch, Bill Chapman, Ken Reid, and Chad Watkins. Gold! is the story of an unusual subculture on the rise in the mountains of Colorado fueled by a delicate balance of hope, greed, and loss. It tells the story of men mostly forgotten by the world as they go in endless pursuit of an impossible fortune. It follows miners working their small, dangerous gold claims in mines over a hundred years old, to modern-day prospectors trying to strike it rich and counterbalance the weight of a struggling economy. The book also examines if those who spend their lives in search of riches—ever actually strike it rich. This book will appeal to both history buffs as well as fans of modern-day reality shows like Gold Rush.

This revised and updated edition of the Chronicle of Malaysia brings the full dramatic sweep of Malaysia's history up to date, taking the reader through the nation's first 50 years from the formation of Malaysia in 1963 all the way to 2013. It is packed with illustrated news stories covering hundreds of the nation's key social, political, cultural and sporting events. As a compendium of all aspects of Malaysian life, the book captures the mood of the day with a sense of vividness and immediacy. Concise, accessible articles—revised and rewritten to engage today's readers—are introduced by headlines and liberally illustrated with photographs and specially commissioned cartoons. The book is structured chronologically, with an average of eight pages devoted to each year beginning with a succinct summary of the year's key events. A host of themes are covered: not just the major political and economic events but also the human side of the Malaysian experience—sports, fashion, music, the arts, architecture, lifestyle, disasters, crime and the social scene. These combine to give readers the feel of each era of Malaysia's past and enables them to draw parallels with the present.
