T. Dillingham, the celebration, which was origin ally to have been held at the residence of Mr. B. F. Dillingham', was postponed but the worthy pair received the congratulations of their friends, at their own residence in N unanu Valley, which for forty years had been their home. It was indeed an occa sion for congratulation, not only on account of the lengthened and felicitous character of their connubial life, as vouchsafed to them by a kind and overruling Providence; but, for the useful Christian work they had been enabled to perform during that period, as Christian Missionaries among a benighted people. Among these to-day, no names are better known, or more revered, than those of this venerable couple whose golden wedding day has so recently transpired. John allin was born in 1596; came over and set tled in Dedham in 1637, of which town he became the pastor in 1639. He had, says Cotton Mather, an easy sickness of ten days. His beloved wife Katherine died three days after, and they were both buried in the same grave. She was his second wife, the widow of Governor Thomas Dudley, and was married to Rev. John Allin, Nov. 8, 1653, only three months after the death of Governor Dudley, and a little more than six months after the death of Margaret his first wife. By his second wife, he had three sons, - Benjamin, Daniel, and Eliezer. Rev. John Allen was from Wrentham, Suffolk County, England, which name was given to a part of Dedham.
