Slow-cooker meals have recently soared in popularity, and it's easy to see why. They are healthy, economical, and simple. However, many slow-cooker recipes rely on old methods that lead to "stewed" results. Nancy S. Hughes improves these recipes by adding fresh ingredients at precise moments to create flavors that pop. Hughes shows how to rejuvenate chili by adding raw onions, peppers, tomatoes, lime, and sour cream at the right point, resulting in flavor, crunch, color, and freshness! With small twists to beloved recipes, anyone can create hassle-free dishes that instantly become classics. And these recipes are not only fresh and fabulous, but healthy too. They meet the American Diabetes Association's nutrition guidelines, designed to help diabetics manage their blood glucose levels. Each recipe also has nutrition information and diabetic exchanges for easy meal planning. This gorgeous book filled with tips, tricks, and techniques is a go-to favorite for any cook with diabetes.

Fifteen Cent Dinners For Families Of Six written by Juliet Corson and has been published by Andrews McMeel Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-16 with Cooking categories.

Self published by the founder of the New York Cooking School, this forty-page leaflet was designed to educate new immigrant families with low incomes about preparing good, healthy meals. As the industrial revolution gathered steam and reformers focused on living conditions of the poor and disadvantaged, economical themes began to appear in cookbooks, and Corson’s pamphlet was extremely popular. In addition to numerous recipes and food preparation techniques, the book contains a “Daily Bill of Fare for One Week”—seven days of menus that cost $2.53 in total leaving a balance of $.62 for extra bread, milk, and butter. The little volume also contains favorable reviews of the book from contemporary publications, and an “ad” for six other books by Corson. The title page contains the following quote from the author: “This little book may not be a welcome guest in the home of the man who fares abundantly every day; it is not written for him; but to the working man, who wants to make the best of his wages, I pray it may bring help and comfort.” This facsimile edition of Juliet Corson’s Fifteen Cent Dinners for Families of Six was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the Society is a research library documenting the life of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. The Society collects, preserves, and makes available as complete a record as possible of the printed materials from the early American experience. The cookbook collection includes approximately 1,100 volumes.

A Hermit S Cookbook written by Andrew Jotischky and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-02 with History categories.

How did medieval hermits survive on their self-denying diet? What did they eat, and how did unethical monks get around the rules? The Egyptian hermit Onuphrios was said to have lived entirely on dates, and perhaps the most famous of all hermits, John the Baptist, on locusts and wild honey. Was it really possible to sustain life on so little food? The history of monasticism is defined by the fierce and passionate abandonment of the ordinary comforts of life, the most striking being food and drink. A Hermit's Cookbook opens with stories and pen portraits of the Desert Fathers of early Christianity and their followers who were ascetic solitaries, hermits and pillar-dwellers. It proceeds to explore how the ideals of the desert fathers were revived in both the Byzantine and western traditions, looking at the cultivation of food in monasteries, eating and cooking, and why hunting animals was rejected by any self-respecting hermit. Full of rich anecdotes, and including recipes for basic monk's stew and bread soup -- and many others -- this is a fascinating story of hermits, monks, food and fasting in the Middle Ages.
