Good News for You "I've got good news and bad news. Which would you like first?" We've all heard that before. So, although I've good news for you, I have to tell you about the bad news first. That's because to find the solution, you've got to understand the problem. To find the cure, you have to understand the medical issues involved. To get where you want to go, you first need to know where you are. The Bad News: An uncrossable separation God did not create us like robots to automatically love and mechanically obey him. The first man and woman, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey God and sin against him. Each of us since has been born with that same sinful and disobedient nature. That results in spiritual separation from God. The Bible says that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...the wages of sin is death" (Romans 3:23, 6:23). People often sense that something is wrong and try many ways to bridge the separation between themselves and God. But God reminds them, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death" (Proverbs 14:12). And "Your iniquities sins] have made a separation between you and your God" (Isaiah 59:2). Only the cross of Christ spans that chasm. The Good News: The cross--a bridge far enough Though Jesus is God's sinless Son, he became a human in order to substitute himself in place of us and pay the penalty for our sins. The Bible says "there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). "Christ...suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). It also says "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us....the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 5:8, 6:23). Christ died on a cross and rose from the grave (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). By doing that he bridged the otherwise uncrossable chasm between God and us, providing us the only way to have forgiveness of sin, a personal relationship with God, and eternal life. Your choice: Accept or reject But in order to receive God's offer of forgiveness and have a right relationship with him, we must trust in Jesus Christ and receive him as our Substitute. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). And the Bible adds, "To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). If we place our trust in Jesus Christ, "We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son to die for us], that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). What is your decision? The Bible tells us plainly that "It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Even though the bad news (eternal judgment for our sin) can be trumped by the good news (that Jesus died on the cross in our place to take the penalty for our sin), it depends on a choice you must make during your time on earth. The Bible says that is the only way to live to please God now and to be prepared for eternity. Will you receive Jesus Christ right now and trust in him alone for forgiveness and eternal life? Admit your need for God's forgiveness. Turn from trusting in anything else for eternal life and trust only in Christ. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross, came back to life from the grave, and is your only way to Heaven. Accept Jesus' offer to forgive your sins and become your Savior. You may want to tell him in a prayer like this: "Dear Jesus, thank you for making it possible for me to f

There is good news today! You don't have to be overwhelmed by the newspapers' headlines or even your own problems. God can be with you today--and every day. God knows the sense of emptiness we all experience. A great man who had known that emptiness once prayed to God, "Thou hast made us for Thyself, and the heart of man is restless until it finds its rest in Thee" (St. Augustine). God sees us trying to fill His place in our lives with friends or pleasure or success. But apart from Him there is no lasting satisfaction in even the good things of life. Only the God who made us can meet our deepest needs. The root of our problem is separation from God. The Bible tells us that long ago men rebelled against God and His design for the world. And we continue to rebel: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). With man's rebellion came alienation from God and eventually death: "By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" (Romans 5:12). Without a Savior we face this life and eternity without God. But the Bible has good news: "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again for you. He can free you from the penalty of sin by bringing you into a life-giving relationship with God. To know God you must first come to His Son in a personal step of faith. He is waiting for you. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me" (John 14:6). The Lord is "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). Repenting of your sins means that you are turning from what displeases God to follow Christ. Never be afraid that He will reject you. Jesus said, "Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37). Come to Christ now--just as you are. The Bible promises, "As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12). Then you can know Jesus' promise, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).

In the past century, the average life expectancy in the United States has risen by more than 25 years. That enables those who believe Christ died in their place to be "born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3)! This Easter Jesus Christ offers you salvation and new life. Through faith in him you can join the countless millions who have believed his promise: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life" (John 3:36). Have you received this good news of Easter? "God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:11-12). Admit to God that you need his forgiveness and salvation. Turn from trusting in anything else for eternal life and trust only in Christ. Today you can place your trust in the resurrected Christ and receive salvation--this is certainly good news! You may want to express your trust in the offer of forgiveness and eternal life this way: Dear Jesus, I do believe you died in my place so my sins can be forgiven. I also believe that you rose again so that I can have eternal life. Thank you for loving me so much to make this possible! Amen.
