Although his typewriter has been silent for nearly fifty years, Gordon MacQuarrie’s words continue to inspire generations of hunting and fishing enthusiasts. Through his “Stories of the Old Duck Hunters,” most of which are still in print, MacQuarrie captured the intangible, emotional qualities of the outdoor life in a way that made him unique among his peers. As a result, his audience and his legend continue to grow. Gordon MacQuarrie: The Story of an Old Duck Hunter is the first full-length biography of this literary legend. It explores the relationships he nurtured and treasured; records his coming of age during Theodore Roosevelt’s Conservation Movement; documents his rise to national prominence as the first full-time, professional outdoor writer in America; and follows his life as journalist, storyteller, husband, father, outdoorsman, and conservationist. Complete with rarely seen photographs and a comprehensive timeline of his writings, this book is a fitting companion to MacQuarrie’s own Stories of the Old Duck Hunters anthologies.

Gordon MacQuarrie, best known for his Old Duck Hunters Association stories in popular outdoor magazines, was a full time outdoor columnist for the Milwaukee Journal from 1936 until his untimely death in 1956. This book, bearing the same name as his column, Right Off The Reel, contains 84 of his best columns. These deal with his early friends and hunts in northwest Wisconsin, his life with his neighbors at Middle Eau Claire Lake, Mister President (Al Peck) and conservation stories about Aldo Leopold, Ernie Swift, Sig Olson and others. Many of these columns are in fact rough drafts for the ODHA stories found in magazines or reprinted in The Old Duck Hunters trilogy or other books. All proceeds from this book will go to the Barnes (WI) Area Historical Association (BAHA), which supports a MacQuarrie Museum and library in the area of MacQuarrie's beloved cabin on Middle Eau Claire Lake.

History Afield written by Robert C Willging and has been published by Wisconsin Historical Society this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-22 with History categories.

Stories of sportsmen past come to life in History Afield, an account of the many and varied sporting pursuits that are part of the Wisconsin tradition. Author and outdoorsman Robert Willging shares more than two dozen tales of Wisconsin sporting history, highlighting the hunt for waterfowl, upland birds, and deer; trout fishing in wild north Wisconsin rivers; and recreating at early Wisconsin lakeside resorts. Anecdotes of fishing exploits on our plentiful waterways and presidential visits to northern Wisconsin reveal a unique slice of sporting culture, and chapters on live decoys and the American Water Spaniel demonstrate the human-animal bond that has played such a large part in that history. Tales of nature’s fury include a detailed account of the famous Armistice Day storm, as well as the dangers of ice fishing on Lake Superior. These historical musings and perspectives on sporting ethos provide a strong sense of the lifestyle that Willging has preserved for our new century. Featuring first-hand interviews and a variety of historic photos depicting the Wisconsin sporting life, History Afield shows how the intimate relationship between humans and nature shaped this important part of the state’s heritage.

Representation And Substitution In The Atonement Theologies Of Dorothee S Lle John Macquarrie And Karl Barth written by Jeannine Michele Graham and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Religion categories.

How does what happened 2000 years ago in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ radically alter the human nature and life situation of men and women in every generation up to the present day? Pursuit of this question provided the initial impetus for this book, a study of two vital themes pertaining to the doctrine of atonement - representation and substitution. The author explores their meaning and role within the theologies of three significantly diverse contemporary theologians - Dorothee Sölle, John Macquarrie, and Karl Barth - concluding with a comparative analysis of all three perspectives in relation to each other.
