The most important disciple a parent will make is within their own home, and yet this is the most difficult disciple to make. Family Discipleship by Matt Chandler and Adam Griffin helps readers develop a sustainable rhythm of gospel-centered discipleship through a guided framework focusing on moments of discipleship in 3 key areas: time (intentional time gathering your family around gospel activities or conversations), moments (leveraging opportunities throughout the day), and milestones (celebrating significant life events). Each section provides parents with Scriptures to consider, questions to answer, structures to implement, and ideas to try out as they seek to see Christ formed in their children. Here is a book that begins with the end in mind, offering ideas and examples of what gospel-centered family discipleship looks like, helping parents design their own discipleship plan as they seek to raise children in the love and fear of the Lord.

Numerous books set out to help Christian parents in the challenging mission of raising their children well--so what's different about this one? Well, the answer's in the title! It's not about how the gospel fits into Christian family life, but how family life should fit into the gospel--God's greatest purpose for this universe, achieved in Christ. Many books aim to raise up competent, balanced parents and well-trained, well-rounded children. But Tim Chester and Ed Moll focus on families growing God-knowing, Christ-confessing, grace-receiving, servant-hearted, mission-minded believers--adults and children together. Christian families should be about: not just making good citizens but also church planters, missionaries, reformers, servants and evangelists; not just learning about God but also showing him to others; not just controlling behavior but also changing the heart; not just parents and children, but being an integral part of the wider church family. In twelve concise chapters, Gospel-Centered Family takes us through the major Bible principles for family life, challenging us to give up our 'respectable' middle-class idols, and to become the distinctively different people that God, through his gospel, calls us to be.

Nearly all metaphors in the Gospel according to John relate to ancient family imagery. Thus, the disciples are born of the Father; the Father provides them with bread and drink (water); He educates them and protects them and a dwelling is prepared for them, and so on. This family imagery, which is interwoven throughout the Gospel in a complex network, provides a key to the understanding of the message of the Fourth Gospel. In this volume, after exploring numerous state-of-the-art theories on metaphor, a customised metaphor theory is developed from the Fourth Gospel itself, which can be applied to the analysis of the Gospel as a whole. The theory is based on two of the best-known metaphors in the Fourth Gospel: I am the Good Shepherd, and I am the True Vine. Subsequently, all other metaphors are analysed according to this theory.

Advent is the perfect time for families to gather together and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Using pictures of Jesus from Isaiah's prophecies—the Light, the Branch, the Shepherd, and the Savior—brings to life the true meaning of Christmas. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God spoke to his people through the prophet Isaiah, promising them a Savior. To communicate God’s message, Isaiah used striking, stunning, and surprising imagery—the "wonders" of his love! Isaiah pointed God’s people to the future, when one day, through his birth, death, and resurrection, Jesus would deliver his people from sin and sorrow forever. Perfect for busy families with younger children, each week of Advent focuses on one of Isaiah’s images and has readings related to the week’s theme—Jesus the Light; Jesus the Branch; Jesus the Shepherd; Jesus the Savior—and, on Christmas Day, Jesus the Bread. Each week also includes fun stories, discussion questions, crafts, recipes, games, and suggestions for family service projects. Illustrated by Jeremy Slagle, this four-week devotional will draw families closer to Jesus and to each other.

An American Gospel written by Erik Reece and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-04-02 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

From the award-winning author of Lost Mountain, a stirring work of memoir, spiritual journey, and historical inquiry. At the age of thirty-three, Erik Reece's father, a Baptist minister, took his own life, leaving Erik in the care of his grandmother and his grandfather-also a fundamentalist Baptist preacher, and a pillar of his rural Virginia community. While Erik grew up with a conflicted relationship with Christianity, he unexpectedly found comfort in the Jefferson Bible. Inspired by the text, he undertook what would become a spiritual and literary quest to identify an "American gospel" coursing through the work of both great and forgotten American geniuses, from William Byrd to Walt Whitman to William James to Lynn Margulis. The result of Reece's journey is a deeply intimate, stirring book about personal, political, and historical demons-and the geniuses we must call upon to combat them.
