English summary: For a long time now, there has not been a uniform phenomenon of love in theology, philosophy or in cultural studies. In this work, Konrad Stock develops the theory that it is possible for theology to deduce the uniformity of love, since the object of theology consists in the certainty of God's unconditional and total love. This leads to a hermeneutical process which teaches us to see the biblical witness to revelation as the description of a way of living in a system ruled by love. With this procedure, Konrad Stock seeks to contribute to the program of a public theology which is intended not only for Christians but for society as a whole. Denn der Gegenstand der Theologie besteht in der Gewissheit und in der vielgestaltigen Mitteilungsform des Glaubens, von Gott unbedingt und radikal geliebt zu werden. Dieser theologische Gegenstand grundet auf einer fundamentalanthropologischen Uberlegung, die in der Tiefe des personalen Selbstgefuhls das Moment eines ursprunglichen Begehrens nach Erfullung aufzeigt. Sie fuhrt zu einem hermeneutischen Verfahren, das das biblische Offenbarungszeugnis als die Beschreibung eines Weges zum Leben in der Ordnung der Liebe zu verstehen lehrt. Mit diesem Verfahren sucht Konrad Stock zu dem Programm einer offentlichen Theologie beizutragen, die sich durch ihren Argumentations- und Darstellungsstil sowohl an die christliche als auch an die gesamtgesellschaftliche Offentlichkeit wendet.

This book is about authority, more precisely, about figures of authority. The editors have put together an international group of renowned scholars to discuss the emergence of modern notions of authority from different angles. At the turn of the century and the beginning of the new Millennium, India has made extraordinary industrial and economic progress. At the same time the sub-continent is faced with innumerable problems in the area of basic social services. Religion plays an important role in the interpersonal relationship and social interaction of the people. Religion is not only worship and prayer, but dictates such factors as who could come in physical contact with the other and who has the right to draw water from a well and who is deprived of it. Because of these factors it is necessary to look at the perception of disability in the soteriologies of India. This study confines itself to Hinduism as the major religion of India, that is based on the achievement of salvation and thus to escape the cycle of birth-, death- and rebirth and Christianity, on the other hand, that is involved in trying to improve the conditions of the poor and the needy and its main precept is the love of neighbours. It would be interesting to pursue these distinctions in reviewing the perception of disability in both these religions.
