Diesen Status hatte er schon, bevor er nach Leipzig zog. Doch die Zeit in Leipzig war fur ihn wohl die produktivste, aufgrund der Tatsache, dass er in Leipzig auf Personlichkeiten traf, die ihm bei seinen Beobachtungen unterstutzten und seine publizierten Aufsatze kommentierten. Jedoch waren ihn nicht alle in Leipzig wohl gesonnen. Vor allem aufgrund seiner Religiositat. Von grosser Bedeutung ist die Leipziger Zeit, weil Kirch dort ein Grossteil seiner Lebenszeit verbrachte. Dies lasst sich am Besten durch die von ihm verfassten Briefe veranschaulichen. Auszug Seite 9: Aus dem Brief wird ersichtlich, dass Kirch aufgrund seines ausgepragten Pietismus zunehmend um seinen guten Ruf furchten muss. Da Kirch durch die Veroffentlichung seiner Kalender seinen Lebensunterhalt bezieht, ist dies eine ernst zu nehmende Bedrohung. Der Brief an seinen Sohn Gottlieb eroffnet die Einsicht in Kirchs Gedanken, die seinen Fortgang aus Leipzig andeuten. Kirch weiss bereits zu diesem Zeitpunkt im Oktober 1691 um seine Zukunft in Leipzig. Ihm wird bewusst, auch durch die theologische Fakultat der Universitat Leipzig, dass ihm wohl aus Dresden eine Kundigung droht: [...], denn die Universitat hat schon deliberiret, wie sie mich und Schadenwegschaffen mochten. [...]. Sie haben auff Dresden geschrieben, und erwarten nun Antwort, ob es ihnen erlaubt wird, uns wegzuschaffen." Auszug Seite 15: Kirch gilt wegen seiner aufgeklarten Tendenzen als einer der Vertreter der Fruhaufklarung in Deutschland. Dies widerspricht seiner Religiositat.
