Love eating well but hate paying a lot? Amy McCoy's cookbook, Poor Girl Gourmet (based on her popular blog of the same name), features decadent and delectable recipes for foodies with limited budgets, but sophisticated tastes. In Poor Girl Gourmet, McCoy breaks down the costs for each dish while also offering money-saving strategies, including tips for growing and preserving your own food, as well as ideas for quick and delicious family meals. Each recipe serves at least four people, so it's perfect for families on a budget--because eating well while saving money is something that appeals to all of us. McCoy, knowing that a gourmet meal is enhanced by the proper wine, also reviews more than 25 affordable wine varietals and blends, with pairing suggestions for many of the dishes. And there is a chapter of splurges ($15 to $30 per entree for a family of four) for when you're feeling fancy. Because gourmets, regardless of their budget, appreciate a gorgeous cookbook, Poor Girl Gourmet bucks the pared-down trend in cost-conscious cookbooks, and is illustrated throughout with McCoy's own mouthwatering full-color photography.

Vali G. Heist began organizing at the age of five while cleaning up her room with her older sister. She started her professional organizing business after years of being asked to organize the homes of her family and friends. Organize This! Practical Tips, Green Ideas, and Ruminations about your CRAP began as a collection of the organizing columns she wrote for a local newspaper. CRAP is Vali’s acronym that means Clutter that Robs Anyone of Pleasure. The book includes numerous tips on how to organize, green ways to recycle unwanted CRAP, success stories from clients, and further ruminations about CRAP. Vali helps her readers explore why they have so much CRAP in their homes, why they don’t throw it out, and why they don’t want to deal with it. She helps the reader answer those questions and provides practical, easy tips to organize their homes and help them live the life they really want. In addition, her book is chock-full of organizing resources, is fun to read, and makes a great gift for the organized person as well as the organizationally-challenged. Vali’s insight helps readers learn the difference between belongings and CRAP and empowers them to discover that less is more. Her book also proposes how to live a more ‘green’ life and help save the planet in the process. Her passion is to find simple, easy to implement ways to organize life at home and at work and pass them on to her readers. Bob Rios, of Bob Rios Visual Strategies, created unique cartoons for the book to illustrate the dilemmas many readers face as they organize and unclutter their lives. Bob is a graphic designer, website developer and of course a talented illustrator, who lives in Lebanon, Pennsylvania with his wife and five children. Bob uses his creativity and design expertise to further the business goals of his clients. Through consultation and conversation, he gathers content, colors, type, illustrations, and shapes to capture and convey a company’s message. You’ll find his self-portrait on page 99 of the book! Donna Smallin, Certified Professional Organizer and author of Organizing Plain & Simple and several other books on organization describes Vali’s book as “Simultaneously witty and practical, Organize This! is the intelligent person’s guide to a simpler, more organized life.” Look for Donna’s latest eBook entitled How to Declutter and Make Money Now! by Donna Smallin Kuper. Chris Crouch is president and founder of DME Training and Consulting, author of several books on improving productivity and developer of the GO System training course. He describes Vali’s book: “Stuff, or as Vali calls it, CRAP, can and will easily find its way into your life. The challenge is to limit the inflow and purge the unnecessary items that somehow remain stuck in your environment. Vali's insightful book will help you accomplish those two life-changing goals.” Chris continues to research and study both the mental and physical aspects of living a more joyful and productive life and pass them on to his readers. Debbie Lillard, Certified Professional Organizer and author of Absolutely Organize Your Family and Absolutely Organized: A Mom’s Guide describes Vali’s book: “Vali writes with an environmentally responsible attitude towards ridding the world of CRAP. She understands the causes of disorganization, leaves judgment at the doorstep, and jumps right in to tackle the problems. Her resources are valuable – this is a book you’ll want to recycle and reuse again and again.” Debbie owns an organizing business in Broomall, Pennsylvania and shares her expert advice on various media channels. Vali wants readers to know that the goal of organizing isn’t to have a perfect, ‘Better Homes and Garden’ house (hers isn’t!), but rather to provide order to enjoy the space you have, handle the tough times with grace, and aspire to live the best life possible!

DIVPhotographer Todd Selby is back, this time focusing his lens on the kitchens, gardens, homes, and restaurants of more than 40 of the most creative and dynamic figures working in the culinary world today. He takes us behind the scenes with Noma chef René Redzepi in Copenhagen; to Tokyo to have a slice with pizza maker Susumu Kakinuma; and up a hilltop to dine at an inn without an innkeeper in Valdobbiadene. Each profile is accompanied by watercolor illustrations and a handwritten questionnaire, which includes a signature recipe. Reveling in the pleasures of a taco at the beach, foraging for wild herbs, and the art of the perfectly cured olive, Selby captures the food we love to eat and the people who passionately grow, cook, pour, and serve these incredible edibles every day. Praise for Edible Selby: “Todd Selby has turned his curious eye to the kitchens of some of the world’s most imaginative cooks, artisans, and foragers. Far too often, food and the people who produce it are hidden behind closed doors or lost in an industrial food system, so it’s heartening to see this book champion those who have nothing to hide. With Todd’s trademark good humor and disarmingly quirky style, Edible Selby is a pure celebration of the creativity and authenticity of the wonderful individuals who are bringing real food to the table.” - Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panisse Restaurant “Todd Selby’s foray into the world of food is every bit as intriguing as his eccentric take on the world of interiors. Long live Signor Selby!” - Simon Doonan, Barneys New York creative ambassador “Edible Selby captures the energy and excitement of today's food world. This book is pure Selby.” - Thomas Keller, The French Laundry “Books On My Gifts List…Photographer Todd Selby’s scrapbook reportage on passionate cooks and famous chefs around the world. Messy, magnificent, inspiring.” —Food & Wine magazine “Exploring the world for food, that’s what Edible Selby is all about…and hopefully, you get really hungry when you read it.” —New York Daily News “Photographer Todd Selby has an uncanny eye for the beauty of the unconventional kitchen; in his second book, he features cooks, chefs, and other culinary creative types in their workspaces—complete with recipes and witty hand-drawn illustrations.” —Saveur “This is a book to read on the couch and leave there. Next you’ll want to go to the kitchen and get crazy and make a mess. You will let your hair down, and the meal will be infused with life.” —TheKitchn.com /div

As African American women left the plantation economy behind, many entered domestic service in southern cities and towns. Cooking was one of the primary jobs they performed, feeding generations of white families and, in the process, profoundly shaping southern foodways and culture. In Cooking in Other Women's Kitchens: Domestic Workers in the South, 1865-1960, Rebecca Sharpless argues that, in the face of discrimination, long workdays, and low wages, African American cooks worked to assert measures of control over their own lives. As employment opportunities expanded in the twentieth century, most African American women chose to leave cooking for more lucrative and less oppressive manufacturing, clerical, or professional positions. Through letters, autobiography, and oral history, Sharpless evokes African American women's voices from slavery to the open economy, examining their lives at work and at home. The enhanced electronic version of the book includes twenty letters, photographs, first-person narratives, and other documents, each embedded in the text where it will be most meaningful. Featuring nearly 100 pages of new material, the enhanced e-book offers readers an intimate view into the lives of domestic workers, while also illuminating the journey a historian takes in uncovering these stories.
