Donkeys are gaining in popularity across the country. They are used in trail riding, as pets, to guard livestock from coyotes and wild dogs, and as show animals. Donkeys are also used to breed mules, which are a hybrid produced by crossing a male donkey with a female horse. In The Book of Donkey, Donna Campbell Smith will cover the origin and history of donkeys world-wide. She will include chapters on breeds and types, care, housing, breeding, training, and the use of donkeys in the same format as her previous three books with Lyons Press. The Book of Donkeys will stand alone as an introduction to the world of donkeys and donkey keeping.

“There is a double standard for Democrat and Republican criminals . . . An irresistible book that reminds us what the New York Times wants us to forget.” —David Horowitz, Publisher, FrontPage Magazine Shameless bribery. Illicit sex. Sweeping corruption. “The Democratic Party is like the Gambino mob, but with matching federal funds.” In this raucous, head-spinning look at the follies and felonies of today’s most famous and infamous liberals, journalists Lynn Vincent and Robert Stacy McCain chronicle for the first time the rampant crime, sex, and corruption of the Democratic Party. Donkey Cons reveals: How corrupt Democrats in Congress outnumber corrupt Republicans by as much as three to one. How Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy were elected with the help of the Mob. What two eyewitnesses said about JFK’s obsession with hookers. How union operatives take from working families to deliver millions of dollars to Democrats. How Democrats in the 1990s covered up a conspiracy one expert called “the largest incidence of obstruction of justice in American history.” Why Democrats ignore crime victims and take the side of rapists, robbers, and cop-killers—then stump for the right of felons to vote! From bribery, kickbacks, and sex scandals to espionage, terrorism, and rape, what was once the “Party of the People” has become a party with an appallingly long rap sheet. And this hard-hitting, sad-but-funny exposé of the crimes of the Democratic Party finally puts all their misdeeds into perspective. Thoroughly researched, using outrageous anecdotes and intimate details, Donkey Cons shows that the serial corruption of the Clinton presidency wasn’t an anomaly but a developing, unnerving pattern in the modern Democratic ethos. These are the stories the Democrats don’t want you to read!

What happened to the Democratic Party after the 1960s? In many political histories, the McGovern defeat of 1972 announced the party’s decline—and the conservative movement’s ascent. What the conventional narrative neglects, Patrick Andelic submits, is the role of Congress in the party’s, and the nation’s, political fortunes. In Donkey Work, Andelic looks at Congress from 1974 to 1994 as the Democratic Party’s stronghold and explores how this twenty-year tenure boosted and undermined the party’s response to the conservative challenge. If post-1960s America belongs to the conservative movement, Andelic asks, how do we account for the failure of so much of the conservative agenda—especially the shrinking of the federal government? Examining the Democratic Party’s unusual durability in Congress after 1974, Donkey Work disrupts the narrative of inexorable liberal decline since the 1970s and reveals the ways in which liberalism and conservatism actually developed in tandem. The book traces the evolution of ideologies within the Democratic Party, particularly the emergence of “neoliberalism,” suggesting that this political philosophy was as much an anticipation of America’s “right turn” as a reaction to it; as factions vied for control of the party, Congress itself both strengthened and weakened liberal resistance to the conservative movement. By putting the focus on Congress and legislative politics, in contrast to the “presidential synthesis” that dominates US political history, Andelic’s book offers a new, deeply informed perspective on two turbulent decades of American politics—a perspective that alters and expands our understanding of how we arrived at our present political moment.

Carried by a donkey during the People’s Liberation Army’s triumphant march to Beijing in 1948-49, a newborn at the birth of New China. Spent her formative years in an idyllic showcase boarding kindergarten, sometimes sitting on the lap of frequent visitor Ho Chi Minh. Daughter of a cabinet minister and member of the communist elite, she saw up-close the power struggles as the turbulent years unfolded: purges, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and reform attempts. Marched with Che Guevara through Tiananmen Square while in middle school. Faced a crowd of thousands calling her names during the Cultural Revolution. She was forced to watch her mother being tortured by Red Guards. Treated ailing villagers as a barefoot doctor in a commune. Swam across the Yangtze with a rifle on her back when she was a soldier in the People’s Liberation Army. Defied the commissars by folk-dancing in England when she was a government exchange student and under tight control. Trekked the roof of the world in Tibet and Nepal as a tour guide, and savored a high-altitude romance with her mountaineering French lover. Interpreted for Chinese delegations in UN and private meetings with George H. W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Ferdinand Marcos, and Pope John Paul II. Entered UC Berkeley and earned a master’s and a Ph.D. in comparative legal studies. Saw her dreams for China dashed as students in Tiananmen Square fell under gunfire in June 1989. She refused to back down when the Chinese consulate confiscated her passport for her pro-democracy activities, and stood up to a false accusation that she was a double agent. Survived a vicious frame-up and million-dollar lawsuit. She seized opportunity from adversity and founded Human Harmony ADR, the Bay Area’s first Chinese-English bilingual mediation service. Endured abortion, miscarriage, and acquaintance rape. She raised two good sons as a single mother. Her memoir intertwines intimate personal experience with major events in modern China. Unflagging in her idealism, she never stopped searching for something new to believe in after Mao. Politically active, spiritually grounded, and enjoying soul-satisfying relationships, Sonia Song now lives in Marin County, California and continues to pursue her dream of being a bridge between East and West, China and America. She offers this memoir to her hometown at the time of the Olympics in Beijing. Donkey Baby is her story.

The standard on government statements of work just got better! How to Write a Statement of Work has been a standard reference for government employees and contractors for many years. Now, with this sixth edition, it is even more relevant and useful. Based on the excellent foundation laid by the late Peter Cole, Michael Martin has updated and added material to guarantee this handbook's place in the list of “must haves” for working with government contracts. As in the earlier editions, the emphasis is on providing practical, detailed guidance on writing and preparing a description of government requirements, whether a statement of work (SOW), a performance work statement (PWS), or a statement of objectives (SOO). Among the many additions to this sixth edition are updates to reflect the current definition of an SOO as well as references and guidance regarding the development and application of the SOO. There is a new chapter on why change management is so important on projects, legal precedents supporting change management, and how to identify when a change occurs using the SOW. This new chapter also includes information on the federal government's Standard Form 30 (SF30) to provide perspective on how change orders are used and applied in the federal government. If you are working in government contracting in any capacity, you should have this book on hand!
