Th ey were both born and raised in western North Dakota, where their parents homesteaded in the early 20th Century. Th eir younger married years were a major challenge, as they tried to make a living on a farm in the depths of the Great Depression, while raising their children. Th ey overcame great odds to eventually prosper, while contributing mightily to their family, community, state, and nation. Th eir 58 descendents (as of 2011) are justly proud, and thankful for the huge contributions they made during their lifetimes.

Grace is God at work in a person's life. It is divine help or assistance channeled into our lives as God's children. The essence of this divine enabling is so that we can become what we were made to be, and also accomplish God's purpose for our lives. No one can fulfill purpose without the factor of grace in his or her life. Grace is an indispensable asset to life just as fuel is to an engine. God did not design, wire or mandate man to succeed in life without grace. The difference between success and failure, victory and defeat, and even life and death is grace! It is instructive to know that even Christ the Messiah needed grace to accomplish his mission of salvation for humanity. "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon him" (Luke 2:40). God's grace encompasses his favor, delight, and beauty. It is the activation of these divine attributes through grace that makes a destiny colorful. Grace is the divine vehicle that brings to reality the abundant life that the Lord Jesus Christ has offered us through his death and resurrection. He is the author of grace and truth. The greatest apostle of all time, Paul, attributed all his unparalleled accomplishments in life and ministry to the power of grace. Apostle Paul literally put his life and ministry on the line, in defense of the gospel of the grace of God for this reason. Hear him: "And now behold I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there; Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus TO TESTIFY THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD" (Acts 20:22-24; emphasis mine). I pray that this message will help to provoke a hunger in our heart to seek and maximize God's grace in our lives to the glory of our heavenly Father. Welcome to graceful living!
