Buildings are combinatorial constructions successfully exploited to study groups of various types. The vertex set of a building can be naturally decomposed into subsets called Grassmannians. The book contains both classical and more recent results on Grassmannians of buildings of classical types. It gives a modern interpretation of some classical results from the geometry of linear groups. The presented methods are applied to some geometric constructions non-related to buildings Grassmannians of infinite-dimensional vector spaces and the sets of conjugate linear involutions. The book is self-contained and the requirement for the reader is a knowledge of basic algebra and graph theory. This makes it very suitable for use in a course for graduate students.

This research monograph provides a comprehensive study of a conjecture initially proposed by the second author at the 1998 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). This conjecture asserts the equivalence, for a Fano variety, between the semisimplicity condition of its quantum cohomology and the existence of full exceptional collections in its derived category of coherent sheaves. Additionally, in its quantitative form, the conjecture specifies an explicit relation between the monodromy data of the quantum cohomology, characteristic classes, and exceptional collections. A refined version of the conjecture is introduced, with a particular focus on the central connection matrix, and a precise link is established between this refined conjecture and Γ-conjecture II, as proposed by S. Galkin, V. Golyshev, and H. Iritani. By performing explicit calculations of the monodromy data, the validity of the refined conjecture for all complex Grassmannians G(r,k) is demonstrated. Intended for students and researchers, the book serves as an introduction to quantum cohomology and its isomonodromic approach, along with its algebraic counterpart in the derived category of coherent sheaves.

The geometry of Jordan and Lie structures tries to answer the following question: what is the integrated, or geometric, version of real Jordan algebras, - triple systems and - pairs? Lie theory shows the way one has to go: Lie groups and symmetric spaces are the geometric version of Lie algebras and Lie triple systems. It turns out that both geometries are closely related via a functor between them, called the Jordan-Lie functor, which is constructed in this book. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hermann Graßmann (1809-1877), an interdisciplinary conference was held in Potsdam, Germany, and in Graßmann's hometown Szczecin, Poland. The idea of the conference was to present a multi-faceted picture of Graßmann, and to uncover the complexity of the factors that were responsible for his creativity. The conference demonstrated not only the very influential reception of his work at the turn of the 20th century, but also the unexpected modernity of his ideas, and their continuing development in the 21st century. This book contains 37 papers presented at the conference. They investigate the significance of Graßmann's work for philosophical as well as for scientific and methodological questions, for comparative philology in general and for Indology in particular, for psychology, physiology, religious studies, musicology, didactics, and, last but not least, mathematics.
