A place to write your travel bucket list. Our Story Traveling is a passion of the Greater than a Tourist book series creator. Lisa studied abroad in college, and for their honeymoon Lisa and her husband toured Europe. During her travels to Malta, an older man tried to give her some advice based on his own experience living on the island since he was a young boy. She was not sure if she should talk to the stranger but was interested in his advice. When traveling to some places she was wary to talk to locals because she was afraid that they weren't being genuine. Through her travels, Lisa learned how much locals had to share with tourists. Lisa created the Greater Than a Tourist book series to help connect people with locals. A topic that locals are very passionate about sharing.

Bahia written by Alex Robinson and has been published by Bradt Travel Guides this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Travel categories.

When Brazilians are far from home they dream of Bahia - of its powder-fine beaches and reef-ringed islands; of waterfalls in the Diamond mountains of the arid sertão, of cobbled streets and pastel-painted houses in Salvador. They long for capoeira and the rich spicy smell of Bahian cooking; the rhythms of axé and the colour of the world's largest carnival. "Você tem que ir." they say. "You must go." Bradt's Bahia shows the way to the World Heritage sites of Salvador (which has the largest collection of colonial baroque in the world) and the Discovery Coast rainforests; to the best of the beaches around the resorts of Itacaré, Porto Seguro and Trancoso; and beyond to the unspoilt island of Boipeba; the northern Linha Verde near Mangue Seco; and the little-explored coast of Sergipe and Alagoas states to Bahia's north.

Salvador, located on a peninsula on the Todos os Santos By, is the capital of the federal state Bahia. With more than two million inhabitants, Salvador is the most important economic center of the northeast Brazil. In 1501, just one year after the "discovery" of Brazil, Amerigo Vespucci reached the peninsula on November 1st, (All Saints Day, thus the name Baia de Todos os Santos, or "All Saints Bay"). In 1549, Salvador was made the first capital of Brazil by the Portuguese crown and evolved into the largest city south of the equator, with 25,000 inhabitants at the time. Discover this fascinating area through the eyes of the photographers Felix Richter and Martin Fiegl.

This volume explores how mechanisms of postindustrial capitalism affect places and people in peripheral regions and de-industrializing cities. While studies of globalization tend to emphasize localities newly connected to global systems, this collection, in contrast, analyzes the disconnection of communities away from the market, presenting a range of ethnographic case studies that scrutinize the framework of this transformative process, analyzing new social formations that are emerging in the voids left behind by the de-industrialization, and introducing a discussion on the potential impacts of the current economic and ecological crises on the hyper-mobile model that has characterized this recent phase of global capitalism and spatially uneven development.

A Portrait Of Brazil In The Twentieth Century written by MARK J. CURRAN and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-27 with Religion categories.

A Portrait of Brazil in the Twentieth Century: The Universe of the Literatura de Cordel is Currans most recent project. The book, in effect, is the English version of a major work published in Brazil in Portuguese in 2011, Retrato do Brasil em Cordel. Curran returns to Portrait for several reasons: primary is his strong feeling that the amazingly broad view of Brazil in the twentieth century seen in the thousands of booklets in verse from the Cordel represents a major aspect of Brazilian culture in that century. Second, because there are many important bodies of folk-popular verse in the Western tradition, all distant relatives of the Greek and Roman epic traditions, and because Brazils folk-popular poetry is one among them. And because a very large reading public interested in such things does not know Portuguese, this volume in English strives to make the tradition available to such readers. Finally, the book in two volumes represents the cumulative efforts of research and writing of Professor Curran in a career of forty-three years of scholarly research and teaching. It reveals a unique portrait of Brazil and its people, informative, instructive, and mainly, entertaining.

Selling Black Brazil written by Anadelia Romo and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-18 with History categories.

In the early twentieth century, Brazil shifted from a nation intent on whitening its population to one billing itself as a racial democracy. Anadelia Romo shows that this shift centered in Salvador, Bahia, where throughout the 1950s, modernist artists and intellectuals forged critical alliances with Afro Brazilian religious communities of Candomblé to promote their culture and their city. These efforts combined with a growing promotion of tourism to transform what had been one of the busiest slaving depots in the Americas into a popular tourist enclave celebrated for its rich Afro-Brazilian culture. Vibrant illustrations and texts by the likes of Jorge Amado, Pierre Verger, and others contributed to a distinctive iconography of the city, with Afro-Bahians at its center. But these optimistic visions of inclusion, Romo reveals, concealed deep racial inequalities. Illustrating how these visual archetypes laid the foundation for Salvador’s modern racial landscape, this book unveils the ways ethnic and racial populations have been both included and excluded not only in Brazil but in Latin America as a whole.
