A comprehensive presentation of group-oriented rites for modern magicians inspired by the occult works of Aleister Crowley. Group ritual has been a cornerstone of spiritual practice since time immemorial, yet its history and importance have often been overlooked by occultists of the modern age. This book is an essential resource on the topic, featuring rituals written by Aleister Crowley for his own magic circles—many of them unpublished during his lifetime, plus rare ancient texts that were Crowley’s own inspiration. The rituals are newly edited and explained by practicing magician Rodney Orpheus, drawing on his wealth of experience performing and teaching them within Crowley’s magical order, Ordo Templi Orientis. Orpheus introduces each ritual, explaining its historical context and its function and mode of operation. He also includes detailed notes on each ritual’s proper setting and performance. Whether absolute beginner or seasoned expert, magicians of all paths will find this volume to be an eminently workable and extremely powerful grimoire spanning centuries from ancient Mithraic and Bacchanalian rites, Goetia, and Gnosticism, right up to present day Crowleyan invocations and sexual magick.

Aleister Crowley's ascension into the pantheon of alternative gurus was cemented by his appearance on The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover. Unfortunately, he was known more for his reputation as "The Beast 666" and "The Wickedest Man in the World." All well and good for publicity, but this infamy eclipsed his teachings, as did his technical and opaque writing style, meant more for adepts contemporary to him than the average modern reader. Enter Lon Milo DuQuette to decipher and explain Crowley's texts and more important rituals. Formerly titled The Magick of Thelema, this revised edition features extensive corrections, a new introduction, and a new ritual, "The Rites of Eleusis." This is the perfect introductory text for readers who wonder what the works--rather than the myth--of Aleister Crowley are all about. DuQuette takes the mystery out of both the rituals themselves and Crowley's writing in this modern grimoire. Step by step, he presents a course of study in plain English, with examples of rituals and explanations of their significance. DuQuette also includes a course of study for Crowley's original works with an extensive bibliography and fastidious footnotes.

This remarkable grimoire was translated by S.L.M. Mathers from a 15th century French mauscript. This text has had a huge influence on modern ceremonial magic, and has been cited as a primary influence on Aleister Crowley. Abraham of Würzburg, a cabalist and scholar of magic, describes a quest for the secret teachings which culminated in Egypt, where he encountered the magician Abramelin, who taught him his system in detail. The procedure involves many months of purification, followed by the invocation of good and evil spirits to accomplish some very worldly goals, including acquisition of treasure and love, travel through the air and under water, and raising armies out of thin air. It also tells of raising the dead, transforming ones appearance, becoming invisible, and starting storms. The key to this is a set of remarkable magic squares, sigils consisting of mystical words which in most cases can be read in several directions. Of course, these diagrams are said to have no potency unless used in the appropriate ritual context by an initiate. Mathers analyzed these words in an extensive set of notes and gives possible derivations from Hebrew, Greek and other languages.

The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis or simply Lemegeton, is an anonymous grimoire on demonology. It was compiled in the mid-17th century, mostly from materials a couple of centuries older. It is divided into five books—the Ars Goetia, Ars Theurgia-Goetia, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel, and Ars Notoria. This edition was translated by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and published by Aleister Crowley under the title The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King. Crowley added some additional invocations previously unrelated to the original work, as well as essays describing the rituals as psychological exploration instead of demon summoning.

For the first time, the three great magical works of King Solomon are together in one volume. The Greater and Lesser Keys give a practical guide to the operation of his magic. The testament gives a historical account of its use by Solomon himself. The Greater Key of Solomon was researched and translated from ancient manuscripts in British libraries by S.L. MacGregor Mathers in 1889. Traditionally, the work is divided into two books. Book One explains the operation of conjurations, spells and other magical works found in its pages. Book Two instructs the practitioner on the proper attire, purification and rituals needed for obtaining results. The Lesser Key, is a compilation of ancient writings making up a text book of magick. Portions of the book are traced to the mid-16th to 17th centuries, when occult researchers such as Cornelius Agrippa and Johannes Trithemisus assembled discoveries made during their own investigations into the occult. The original editor was a G. H. Fra. D.D.C.F. He translated the text from French, Hebrew, and Latin, but was unable to complete his labors because of martial assaults from the Four Great Princes. Crowley was asked to step in and finish the work in progress. The Testament is a pseudepigraphical work attributed to King Solomon. Written in the first-person narrative, the book tells how Solomon created his magic ring and used it to bind and control demons, including Beelzebub. Discourses between Solomon and various spirits are recorded, and King Solomon details how he withstood their tricks and guile and even enlisted their aid to build his famous temple.

Goetia (Latin variant of the Greek word for sorcery) refers to the practice of summoning angels or demons for the purpose of gaining knowledge and power. Use of the term in English stems primarily from a 17th-century grimoire known as The Lesser Key of Solomon. This book contains descriptions of the seventy-two demons which King Solomon was able to summon and control. Aleister Crowley edited the book in 1904 and renamed it The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King.
