When I was about seven years old, a teacher visited our home. She said to my mom I had low IQ. I was mentally retarded. After she left, my mom asked me about that. I said if I was mentally retarded, everyone in the class was because I ranked number one in the class (top student). I have had no idea until today why she did that. She was not even my teacher. I was never in her class. Would you like to be a GREAT teacher? Would you like your student to be the best as they can be? The best, I mean, they can do what they love and make it through. Only make it through (hang in there long enough and continually improve) can induce success. They have passion and perseverance, called grit, according to Duckworth, Angela, 2016 in 'Grit, The Power of Passion and Perseverance'. You might want to nurture their passion and push them a bit or stretch them bit by bit until they succeed. For example, instead of giving feedback like - I'm giving you these comments so that you'll have feedback on your paper, you'd rather said - I'm giving you these comments because I have very high expectations and I know that you can reach them. In Duckworth's book (p.219), students given the second feedback made twice as many edits to their essays as students given the first comment. It's the way you convey your message and feedback that make an impact. Cody Coleman, a PhD computer science student at Stanford, p. 222, said "You don't need to be a parent to make a difference in someone's life. If you just care about them and get to know what's going on. You can make an impact. Try to understand what's going on in their life and help them through that. That's something I experienced firsthand. It make the difference." Here is the journal just for that. Note: It's for 150 days.

Mindset written by Carol S. Dweck and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-02-28 with Psychology categories.

From the renowned psychologist who introduced the world to “growth mindset” comes this updated edition of the million-copy bestseller—featuring transformative insights into redefining success, building lifelong resilience, and supercharging self-improvement. “Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes “It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.” After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

The Cult Of Smart written by Fredrik deBoer and has been published by All Points Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-04 with Education categories.

Named one of Vulture’s Top 10 Best Books of 2020! Leftist firebrand Fredrik deBoer exposes the lie at the heart of our educational system and demands top-to-bottom reform. Everyone agrees that education is the key to creating a more just and equal world, and that our schools are broken and failing. Proposed reforms variously target incompetent teachers, corrupt union practices, or outdated curricula, but no one acknowledges a scientifically-proven fact that we all understand intuitively: Academic potential varies between individuals, and cannot be dramatically improved. In The Cult of Smart, educator and outspoken leftist Fredrik deBoer exposes this omission as the central flaw of our entire society, which has created and perpetuated an unjust class structure based on intellectual ability. Since cognitive talent varies from person to person, our education system can never create equal opportunity for all. Instead, it teaches our children that hierarchy and competition are natural, and that human value should be based on intelligence. These ideas are counter to everything that the left believes, but until they acknowledge the existence of individual cognitive differences, progressives remain complicit in keeping the status quo in place. This passionate, voice-driven manifesto demands that we embrace a new goal for education: equality of outcomes. We must create a world that has a place for everyone, not just the academically talented. But we’ll never achieve this dream until the Cult of Smart is destroyed.
