Gibt es einen Gott? Diese Frage bestimmt die Philosophie seit ihren Anfängen in Griechenland. Die philosophische Frage nach Gott beruft sich nicht auf Offenbarungen, sondern auf die Vernunft. Sie versucht im Ausgang von empirischen Gegebenheiten in unserer Welt und durch logische Schlussfolgerungen diese Frage nach der Existenz Gottes zu beantworten. Wird die Frage nach der Existenz Gottes positiv beantwortet, dann stellen sich weitere Fragen nach dem, wer oder was dieser Gott ist. Die Frage, ob es einen Gott gibt, ist in der Gegenwartsphilosophie wieder sehr aktuell geworden, trotz der stets wiederholten Verkündigung des Todes Gottes. Einer der am besten durchdachten Beweise für die Existenz Gottes stammt von Thomas von Aquin. Thomas’ sogenannte „fünf Wege“ werden hier vorgestellt und ausführlich an Gegenargumenten geprüft. Aber auch neuere Gottesbeweise werden in dieser gut lesbaren und verständlichen Schrift diskutiert. Das Schlusskapitel stellt die Frage, wie es so viel Leid auf dieser Welt geben kann, wenn es einen gütigen Gott gibt.

Die natürliche Ethik erhebt den Anspruch, eine realistische und objektive Moralphilosophie zu sein, die ihr Fundament in der Natur des Menschen hat. Aus der Natur des Menschen als eines sinnlichen und rationalen Wesens, das bestimmte objektive Ziele und Zwecke verfolgt, ergeben sich Prinzipien und Gesetze für ein richtiges Handeln, durch das der Mensch seine objektiven Ziele erreicht und so glücklich werden kann. Der sechste Band des Grundkurs Philosophie fragt, welche Ziele und Zwecke zur Erfüllung der menschlichen Natur beitragen und worin das Wesen des Guten besteht. Nach der Darstellung von Grundzügen einer Theorie der natürlichen Ethik werden moralische und metaethische Grundbegriffe geklärt. Anschließend folgt eine kritische Auseinandersetzung der natürlichen Ethik mit anderen Moralphilosophien (Konsequentialismus, deontologische Ethik, Tugendethik, Diskursethik, Neue Naturrechtsethik) und abschließend die Anwendung der natürlichen Ethik auf verschiedene aktuelle Problembereiche. Das Buch setzt keine Kenntnisse der Ethik voraus und ist daher sowohl für Studierende im Grundstudium als auch für philosophisch Interessierte zur Einführung in die Thematik geeignet.

This work proposes a new proof of the existence of God, based on a development of elements found in Patristic and Scholastic philosophical tradition, in particular of St. Augustine, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas. Traditionally the existence of God has been seen in relation to the essence of Truth: its unchanging and eternal essence is used as a proof of the eternal existence of a personal God. The strategy of our demonstration is to investigate the concept of Truth from the perspective of a definition, which can be called “inclusive”: it proposes to formulate, complementary to formal, purely abstract definitions of Truth, also a definition that includes the real personal elements that are necessarily implied in the abstract definition. It shows the necessity of including in it, in the first place, the primary Real Being, God, which is also the primary Intellect; and, related to it, our finite, human intellect, not necessary in itself, but of course essential to our very nature. Claudio Pierantoni is Professor of Medieval Philosophy at the University of Chile (Universidad de Chile) and Professor of Latin Literature at the Universidad de los Andes, Chile. He was former Professor of Church History and Patrology at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic Pontifical University of Chile (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile).
