Operation Inherent Resolve is the name given by U.S. Central Command to the ongoing U.S. military operations in Iraq and Syria against ISIS/ISIL, also known as the Islamic State. This unique, fully updated guide documents all aspects of this operation with comprehensive and authoritative information from renowned experts and government sources. The Islamic State is variously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), AQI, and Daesh. The group - headed by terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi - is seizing substantial territory in Iraq as it attempts to fulfill its ambition of forming the first terrorist Islamic state. Terrorism experts are concerned that the group will pose a serious threat to American interests and security. On September 10, President Obama addressed the American public and announced what amounts to an ongoing war against ISIL. The efforts of the Department of Defense and State Department to implement the new policy is fully documented in this unique compendium, along with incisive commentary during House and Senate congressional hearings. There is also substantial information and commentary about the crisis in Syria, Iran's influence on Iraq, Turkish influence in the Levant, intelligence assessments, histories of the Iraq conflict and politics, and much more about this critical issue. The War Against the Islamic State - Operation Inherent Resolve: Targeted Operations Against ISIL Terrorists * House Armed Services Committee Hearing on the Administration's Strategy for ISIL * ISIL's Reign of Terror: Confronting the Growing Humanitarian Crisis in Iraq and Syria * Next Steps for U.S. Foreign Policy on Syria and Iraq * ISIS and the Threat from Foreign Fighters * Terrorist Financing and the Islamic State * Administration's Strategy and Military Campaign against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) * Countering ISIS: Are We Making Progress? * White House Material * State Department Material * Department of Defense (DOD) Material * Department of Homeland Security Material * Senate Hearing Testimony: Defeating the Islamic State in Iraq * Iraq in Crisis: The Leader al-Baghdadi * The ISIL's Stand in the Ramadi-Falluja Corridor * House Hearing Testimony: The Resurgence of Al-Qaeda in Iraq * Armed Conflict in Syria: Overview and U.S. Response * The Resurgence of Al-Qaeda in Syria and Iraq * Agencies and government sources in this book: Department of Defense, State Department, U.S. Congress, Congressional Research Service, U.S. Army, Strategic Studies Institute, U.S. Army War College.

Military Operational Planning And Strategic Moves written by Lucía Martínez Ordóñez and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-03 with Mathematics categories.

This book employs game theory to warfare and in particular to military operations. It aims at scrutinizing the validity of the two ideas that have governed the literature on war and warfighting: One is the Clausewitzian Fog of War, which suggests that he who is able to "see" through the gunsmoke and observe his opponent’s moves before he has to commit to some strategy himself, should be able to gain an advantage over that enemy; the other is the tradition of understanding military conflict as a zero-sum game. Combined, these ideas seem to imply that war always gives rise to a second-mover advantage. This book questions the validity of this presumption at the operational level of military planning. It provides a simple but rigorous game-theoretic framework in order to analyse operational alternatives for a whole range of typical conflicts Western military forces are facing, including the most recent ones such as Anti-Access/Area-Denial and supporting host nations' counterinsurgency campaigns.

In this book, 50 experts study the lives of U.S. veterans at work, at home, and in American society as they navigate issues regarding health, gender, public service, substance abuse, and homelessness. The aftermath of modern war includes a population of veterans whose needs last for many decades—far longer than the war itself. This in-depth study looks at life after the military, considering the dual conundrum of a population benefiting from the perks of their duty, yet continuing to deal with trauma resulting from their service, and of former servicemen and servicewomen trying to fit into civilian life—in a system designed to keep them separate. Through two comprehensive volumes, essays shed light on more than 30 topics involving or affecting former servicemen and servicewomen, offering a blueprint for the formal study of U.S. veterans in the future. Contributions from dozens of experts in the field of military science cover such issues as unemployment, homelessness, disability, access to higher education, health, media portrayal, criminal justice, substance abuse, guns, suicide, and politics. Through information gleaned from surveys, interviews, participant observations, secondary analyses, and content analyses, the chapters reveal how veterans are able to successfully contribute to civilian life and show how the American workforce can benefit from their unique set of skills.
