"TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 773: Capacity Modeling Guidebook for Shared-Use Passenger and Freight Rail Operations provides state departments of transportation with technical guidance to aid in their understanding of the methods host railroads use to calibrate and apply capacity models. The guidebook examines the modeling processes and results that are used to define, measure, simulate, and evaluate railroad capacity. These models may help determine if adequate capacity exists to support new or increased passenger rail service or if infrastructure improvements may be necessary."--Publisher's description.

Encyclopedia Of Transportation written by Mark Garrett and has been published by SAGE Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-13 with Social Science categories.

Viewing transportation through the lens of current social, economic, and policy aspects, this four-volume reference work explores the topic of transportation across multiple disciplines within the social sciences and related areas, including geography, public policy, business, and economics. The book’s articles, all written by experts in the field, seek to answer such questions as: What has been the legacy, not just economically but politically and socially as well, of President Eisenhower’s modern interstate highway system in America? With that system and the infrastructure that supports it now in a state of decline and decay, what’s the best path for the future at a time of enormous fiscal constraints? Should California politicians plunge ahead with plans for a high-speed rail that every expert says—despite the allure—will go largely unused and will never pay back the massive investment while at this very moment potholes go unfilled all across the state? What path is best for emerging countries to keep pace with dramatic economic growth for their part? What are the social and financial costs of gridlock in our cities? Features: Approximately 675 signed articles authored by prominent scholars are arranged in A-to-Z fashion and conclude with Further Readings and cross references. A Chronology helps readers put individual events into historical context; a Reader’s Guide organizes entries by broad topical or thematic areas; a detailed index helps users quickly locate entries of most immediate interest; and a Resource Guide provides a list of journals, books, and associations and their websites. While articles were written to avoid jargon as much as possible, a Glossary provides quick definitions of technical terms. To ensure full, well-rounded coverage of the field, the General Editor with expertise in urban planning, public policy, and the environment worked alongside a Consulting Editor with a background in Civil Engineering. The index, Reader’s Guide, and cross references combine for thorough search-and-browse capabilities in the electronic edition. Available in both print and electronic formats, Encyclopedia of Transportation is an ideal reference for libraries and those who want to explore the issues that surround transportation in the United States and around the world.

Guidebook For Intercity Passenger Rail Service And Development written by Curtis Alan Morgan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Railroad passenger cars categories.

"This report presents the resources, strategies, analytical tools, and techniques for use by public agencies and private entities to support all phases of planning and decision making in the development of intercity passenger rail service at state, regional, or multistate levels. Components of this guide address three major phases required to build and operate passenger rail: planning, design and construction, and operations. Further, it breaks down each primary phase into major required subtasks. With its comprehensive approach, this guide serves as a companion report to other NCRRP series reports: Report 1: Alternative Funding and Financing Mechanisms for Passenger and Freight Rail Projects, and Report 5: Developing Multi-State Institutions to Implement Intercity Passenger Rail Programs. Given that historical roles, funding, and public support for intercity passenger rail service development vary greatly among state and regional entities, a one-size-fits-all approach was not appropriate in developing this report and conducting the research. Instead, the research team approached development of this guide primarily as an effort to create a wide-ranging collection of existing resources related to intercity passenger rail service and development and performed limited new research to cover the most critical areas where existing written guidance did not exist. Gap area topics identified during the research are addressed in detail in the appendices. The Contractor’s Final Report, included as Appendix F, presents additional background information gathered during preparation of the guide: (1) a comprehensive resource matrix listing documents related to intercity passenger rail service and development; (2) generalized results extracted from interviews with public-sector representatives, Amtrak, and freight rail stakeholders; and (3) results of an online survey used to help build components of the guide. Live links in the resource matrix are accessible through the document via the TRB web page." --

In the past few decades, the field of transportation has changed dramatically. Deregulation and greater reliance on markets and the private sector has helped to reconfigure the transport industries, while the rise of intermodal goods and global commerce has produced efficiencies of operation and a greater interdependence among transport modes. In a
