This document provides an overview of design for disassembly and adaptability (DfD/A) principles and potential strategies for integrating these principles into the design process. This document provides information for owners, architects, engineers, and product designers and manufacturers to assist in their understanding of potential DfD/A options and considerations, and for other parties who are responsible for financing, regulating, constructing, transforming, deconstructing, or demolishing construction works. This document is applicable to all types of buildings (e.g. commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential), civil engineering works (e.g., dams, bridges, roads, railways, runways, utilities, pipelines) and their constituent parts. It can be used for new construction, refurbishment and renovation, and in the design of incremental improvements in, or complete redesign of, buildings, building systems, civil engineering works, and their constituent parts. This document also provides guidance on measuring performance regarding each DfD/A principle and related objectives.

In recent years, both the public concern on environmental issues and the interest and demand for sustainable buildings have been growing worldwide. Architects, engineers, building developers, and buildings owners are feeling pressure to design, construct, and maintain buildings that respect sustainability and the environment. In support of sustainable development initiatives of governments and the building industry, the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has established a Technical Committee on Sustainable Buildings, which has been tasked to develop national standards to advance the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings in a sustainable manner. This paper first discusses the standards development environment in Canada and the standards development process in CSA and goes on to describe the development of a new standard on the design for disassembly and adaptability of buildings.

This open access book summarizes the research being pursued as part of the COST Action CA21103 titled "Implementation of Circular Economy in the Built Environment" (Circular B), which aims to define the methodology to develop a common circularity framework for inclusive application and assessment in new and existing buildings to support decision-making for all value chain stakeholders and appraise the implementation level of the European Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). The Action is increasingly gaining interest worldwide, bringing multidisciplinary young and experienced researchers together to share the latest studies and develop new knowledge. Consisting of 17 chapters corresponding to the conference themes, the book analyses and discusses topics such as Circular Economy (CE) best practices, design strategies for circular buildings, circular materials and products, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, recovery and reuse of salvaged materials and products, case studies of current applications and trends, barriers against CE implementation in buildings, efficient waste and circular resource management, circular lifecycle management and decision making, stakeholders relationships, CE supporting policies and barriers, circular business models, criteria, KPIs and assessment models for circular buildings, CE criteria in sustainability frameworks, digitalization and BIM for enhanced circularity of buildings and building materials, and standardization of CE definitions in buildings.

Guidelines For Design Of Low Rise Buildings Subjected To Lateral Forces written by Ajaya Kumar Gupta and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Guidelines for Design of Low-Rise Buildings Subjected to Lateral Forces is a concise guide that identifies performance issues, concerns, and research needs associated with low-rise buildings. The book begins with an introduction that discusses special problems with low-rise buildings subjected to wind and earthquakes. Chapter 2 examines probabilistic methods and their use in evaluating risks from natural hazards. It also addresses the characteristics of wind and seismic forces and levels of risk implied by building codes. Wind forces are covered in more detail in Chapter 3, with discussions of wind force concepts and wind-structure interactions. Chapter 4 is devoted to earthquake forces and traces the development of building codes for earthquake resistant design. Chapter 5 describes the main framing systems used to resist lateral forces and discusses the code requirements for drift control. The designs and requirements for connections between building elements are addressed in Chapter 6. It includes examples along with several illustrations of suitable connections. The performance of non-structural elements during wind and earthquake forces is also examined in detail. This book serves as an important reference for civil engineers, construction engineers, architects, and anyone concerned with structural codes and standards. It is an excellent guide that can be used to supplement design recommendations and provide a design basis where there are no current requirements.

Principles Of Architectural Detailing written by Stephen Emmitt and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-02-12 with Architecture categories.

Why are buildings detailed the way they are? Why do architects and engineers seem to come to the same kind of solutions to their detailing problems? Are we satisfied with such a situation? With environmental concerns so high on designers' agendas, the answer to this third question has to be 'no'. Collectively architects, engineers and specifiers need to revisit how they detail the built environment, and address the most important and potentially difficult area of the joint between materials and components. In Principles of Architectural Detailing the authors question the way in which buildings are detailed and in particular challenge familiar joint solutions. They offer practical guidance and a number of tools to help the student of architectural detailing in the decision-making process. The emphasis throughout is on using knowledge of construction in a creative and productive way to contribute towards a built environment that enhances our well-being and which is also sustainable.
