Volker Braun In Perspective written by and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-29 with Social Science categories.

On the occasion of Volker Braun's 65th and GDR/German Monitor's 25th birthday an attempt is made to re-evaluate Braun's contribution to 20th and 21st century German literature. The seventeen essays of the collection, written by a truly international set of scholars, demonstrate the unique quality and breadth of Braun's writing, spanning all literary genres. But not only that, they also reveal the diversity of interpretative perspectives which Braun's oeuvre productively stimulates. They showcase an author who refuses to indulge complacently in past achievements and an opus that defies all attempts at labelling. Braun's texts, so the verdict of the contributors, are driven by an insatiable thirst for the whole story, the depth beneath the superficial, the complex truth of our human predicament; for the precise expression which is not caught up in the limitations of the dominant ideology, whatever it might be.

In addition to established playwrights such as Heinar Kipphardt, Franz Xaver Kroetz, and Heiner Muller, the book looks at the younger generation of playwrights not yet fully taken into account by research: writers such as Oliver Bukowski, Dea Loher, Marius von Mayenburg, Albert Ostermaier, and Theresia Walser. It gives an overview of the most important developments in recent German political drama through analysis of more than forty contemporary plays, clearly tracing connections between politics and theater. Each chapter is preceded by a short introduction into the respective political topic, providing the framework for the study of drama as a political tool and making it easy for students to see the multiple ways in which plays respond to political change. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in drama and theater studies and German literature."--BOOK JACKET.

Mediating Order And Chaos written by Rodney Farnsworth and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-08 with Literary Criticism categories.

This literature-centered study offers an interdisciplinary approach to Romantic culture. If is pioneering in that it employs the complexity method of anthropology. Recent literary studies employ the complexity/chaos theory adapted from the natural sciences; however, here is presented for the first time a complexity method taken from the social/human sciences. This complexity method is useful in mediating not only contradictions within Romanticism, but the chaos of contemporary theories concerning it. One of the intensifying literary debates is that between the so-called “Greens” and “Reds,” naturalists and humanists. Mediating Order and Chaos not only traces the split between nature and man to Romantic Culture but finds there, too, a Spinozian vision of man and nature in unity – thereby denying any naturalist/humanist split. This volume is of interest for those who wish to see essays in the holistic approach to culture. Centering on hydraulics, hydrology, and meteorology, this study examines literature, painting, music, economics, and the rhetoric of science, philosophy, and politics, it therewith demonstrates how the water cycle was transformed into a cosmic metaphor that mediated, in the form of several complex adaptive systems, between the chaos of too much change and that of not enough.
