"Since his acclaimed London first play in 1966, Christopher Hampton has amassed over 50 credits in theatre, film and television. From his best-known play, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, to personal and critical favourites like Total Eclipse and Tales from Hollywood; from his films as writer-director (Carrington) to his work as screenwriter-for-hire (The Quiet American); Hampton discusses a career which puts him among Britain's most prominent but least predictable playwrights."--BOOK JACKET.

Hampton Beach is a gem tucked away on New Hampshire’s 18-mile coastline, but its unique qualities and picturesque views have made it one of New England’s most beloved vacation destinations. At the center of beach activity is the Seashell Complex and the Hampton Beach Casino. The Seashell has been on the coast since 1962, and the Casino Ballroom has occupied Ocean Boulevard for over 110 years. The community boasts a seamless combination of old and new, from the recent Hampton Beach Redevelopment Project to the long-standing Ashworth by the Sea Hotel. Its small-town values, annual parades and festivals, and weekly fireworks continue as they have for decades.

As early as 1895, seeking to avoid the summer heat of the city, well-to-do executives, heirs and heiresses of family fortunes, bankers, artists, and others began to flock to the bucolic countryside of East Hampton. This influx began its second phase of development. Behind it lay the village's colonial heritage and ahead lay the estates and condominium subdivisions of today. With over 200 photographs, mostly gathered from the Long Island Collection of the East Hampton Library, East Hampton traces the dramatic development of one of America's foremost summer colonies. This photographic account reflects its early settlers and hotels, now only a memory; its distinctive shingle-style cottages; and images of elm tree-lined Main Street. Windmills, suffrage meetings on the village green, and of course fine homes designed by the most sought-after architects are recaptured in this enchanting pictorial history.

Hampton, originally a summer village for Native Americans from the interior of New Hampshire, was founded in 1638 by a small group of Puritan farmers and fishermen. In 1840, the railroad brought the beginnings of the tourist industry to the little village. New businesses sprang up to accommodate the summer visitors arriving on the train from Boston, and the development of Hampton Beach as a resort began. The building of the street railway at the end of the nineteenth century linked the beach to towns all around the region, and Hampton became a major destination for day visitors.

The Music And Mythocracy Of Col Bruce Hampton written by Jerry Grillo and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Col. Bruce Hampton was a charismatic musical figure who launched and continued to influence the jam band genre over his fifty-plus years performing. Part bandleader, soul singer, storyteller, conjuror, poet, preacher, comedian, philosopher, and trickster, Col. Bruce actively sought out and dealt in the weird, wild underbelly of the American South. The Music and Mythocracy of Col. Bruce Hampton is neither a true biography in the Boswellian sense nor a work of cultural studies, although it combines elements of both. Even as biographer Jerry Grillo has investigated and pursued the facts, this life history of Col. Bruce reads like a novel—one full of amazing tales of a musical life lived on and off the road. Grillo’s interviews with Hampton and his bandmates, family, friends, and fans paint a fascinating portrait of an artist who fostered some of the best music ever played in America. Grillo aims not so much to document and demystify the self-mythologizing performer as to explain why his fans and friends loved him so dearly. Hampton’s family history, his place in Atlanta and southeastern musical history, his significant friendships and musical relationships, and the controversies over personnel in his Hampton Grease Band over the years are all discussed. What emerges is a portrait of a P. T. Barnum of the musical world, but one who included his audience and invited them through the tent door to share his inside joke, with plenty of joy to go around.

From the Civil War period, Hampton's African-American community has fashioned strong churches, institutions, businesses, and a major university where political and economic leaders have emerged. The indefatigable spirit of a people once called "contraband" has a remarkable story illustrated by vintage photographs of Emancipation Oak, Freedom Fortress, Aberdeen Gardens, Little England Chapel, Bayshore Beach, and other historic sites.
