The Handbook of Gestalt-Theoretic Psychology of Art synthesizes contemporary research in the psychology of perception, cognition, language and hearing to reassess the Gestalt approach to studying the arts. Since Rudolf Arnheim’s death in 2007, the field has seen a resurgence, with scientists revisiting and reinventing previously articulated points of view. For the first time, this new work is gathered in a single comprehensive resource. Beginning with a history of the field, the book considers meta-theoretic issues before discussing the various senses. It explores topics including aesthetics, space, poetry, literature, music, and film, bringing together leading researchers from across the discipline. It will be an essential read for all students and researchers of the psychology of art, the psychology of perception, or Gestalt Theory.

Arnheim, Gestalt and Art is the first book-length discussion of the powerful thinking of the psychologist of art, Rudolf Arnheim. Written as a complete overview of Arnheim’s thinking, it covers fundamental issues of the importance of psychological discussion of the arts, the status of gestalt psychology, the various sense modalities and media, and developmental issues. By proceeding in a direction from general to specific and then proceeding through dynamic processes as they unfold in time (creativity, development, etc.), the book discovers an unappreciated unity to Arnheim’s thinking. Not content to simply summarize Arnheim’s theory, however, Arnheim, Art, and Gestalt goes on to enrich (and occasionally question) Arnheim’s findings with the contemporary results of gestalt-theoretical research from around the world, but especially in Italy and Germany. The result is a workable overview of the psychology of art with bridges built to contemporary research, making Arnheim’s approach living and sustainable.

Handbook For Theory Research And Practice In Gestalt Therapy written by Philip Brownell and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-03-26 with Psychology categories.
Many books have been written about gestalt therapy. Not many have been written on the relationship between gestalt therapy and psychotherapy research. The Handbook for Theory, Research, and Practice in Gestalt Therapy is a needed bridge between these two concerns, and a timely addition to scholarly literature on gestalt therapy itself. In 2007 an international team of experienced gestalt therapists devoted themselves to create this book, and they have collaborated with one another to produce a challenging and enriching addition to the literature relevant to gestalt therapy. The book discusses the philosophy of science, the need for research specifically focused on gestalt therapy, and the critical realism and natural attitude found in both research and gestalt praxis. It provides discussions of qualitative and quantitative research, describes the methods of gestalt therapy as based in a unified theory, and illustrates the application of research in the contexts of emerging gestalt research communities. The discussion contained in this book is needed at a time when warrant for the practice of psychotherapy is increasingly sought in the empirical support available through psychotherapy research–the so called evidence-based movement–and at a time when public policy is increasingly driven by the call for "what works."

This accessible guide thoughtfully unpacks why art resonates so deeply within us, blending historical context, cognitive science, and emotional insight to offer readers a comprehensive foundation in art appreciation. By exploring the origins of our responses to art—be it visual stimulation, emotional evocation, or intellectual curiosity—the book reveals how personal experience, cultural background, and evolving psychological theories converge to shape our understanding and enjoyment of creative works. Structured around clear chapters, the book provides readers with practical strategies for mindful engagement with art, whether in museums, public spaces, or at home. From the science of visual perception and the mechanics of the artist’s creative process to cross-cultural interpretations and the value of constructive criticism, each topic is designed to build both confidence and independence in the art viewer. The text demystifies common misconceptions and encourages readers to harness their imagination, challenge their assumptions, and participate thoughtfully in art conversations. Ultimately, "The Psychology of Art Appreciation" is not only a guide to understanding art but also an invitation to lifelong learning and self-discovery. Readers are encouraged to reflect on their journey, develop habits that integrate art into everyday life, and connect with creative communities.
