This Handbook discusses the pathology, etiology, pathogenesis, and therapeutic interventions of different neurodegenerative diseases. The initial section of the Handbook reviews the recent advances in understanding neurodegenerative diseases and the commonalities and differences between the major pathologies. The subsequent section presents recent developments in understanding fundamental biological mechanisms that influence the onset and development of neurodegenerative diseases. It provides current biomedical studies that are aimed at identifying the underlying causes of neurodegeneration. The book also examines the recent observations from biological, cellular, and studies from the model organisms for gaining mechanistic insights into neurodegenerative disorders. It also presents the epidemiological and genetics studies relevant to clinical aspects of neurodegenerative diseases. The book's subsequent chapters offer new and more effective therapeutic strategies to combat these devastating diseases. Towards the end, the Handbook presents recent advances in molecular diagnostics for neurodegenerative disorders and a perspective on the future directions to provide a framework for further developments and refinements of molecular diagnostics to combat neurodegenerative diseases.

Neurodegeneration is a key feature of several diseases that are referred to as neurodegenerative diseases. The process of neurodegeneration is not well-understood so the diseases that stem from it have, as yet, no cures. As such, studying the effects of these disorders can provide insight into the treatment, prevention, and future opportunities and challenges in this growing field. The Handbook of Research on Critical Examinations of Neurodegenerative Disorders is a critical scholarly resource that provides an extensive explanation of various neurodegenerative disorders based on existing studies to clarify etiology, pathological mechanisms, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, as well as current status and future opportunities and challenges. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as dementia, mitochondrial dysfunction, and risk factors, this book is geared towards neurobiologists, neuropsychologists, neurophysiologists, neuropathologists, medical professionals, academicians, and researchers seeking research on the complexity of neurodegenerative disorders.

Evidence-based, peer reviewed, best practice management guidelines for neurologists Diagnosis is only part of the puzzle. Effective treatment is what your patients really want. The European Federation of Neurological Societies has been publishing management guidelines in the European Journal of Neurology for many years. Developed by a consensus approach, using graded evidence, and then fully peer reviewed, these guidelines provide gold-standard, best-practice guidance to the treatment of neurological disorders. They help bridge the gap between what is done and what should be done for patients with neurological disorders. The basic guidelines have been expanded with 'Recommendations' based on strong evidence and 'Good Practice Points' where only weaker evidence is available. The Guidelines in this volume include, amongst others: Neurostimulation therapy for neuropathic pain Molecular diagnosis for a range of neurological conditions Intravenous immunoglobulin in the treatment of neurological diseases Sleep disorders in neurodegenerative disorders and stroke Management of low-grade gliomas Treatment of miscellaneous idiopathic headache disorders The European Handbook of Neurological Management provides a thoroughly rounded and grounded approach to best-practice neurological management using evidence-based principles. Handbook Of Traumatic Brain Injury And Neurodegeneration written by R.J. Castellani and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-24 with Medical categories.

Holbourne’s theory that rotational head movement and shear strains were limiting factors in producing acute parenchymal brain damage was a watershed moment in understanding traumatic brain injury (TBI). Long term effects, and in particular neurodegenerative proteinopathy subsequent to TBI, remain theoretical, notwithstanding the poorly understood ‘punch drunk’ syndrome of the early and mid-20th century, and the 21st century concept of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This book, the Handbook of Traumatic Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration, has as its theme the marriage between neurodegenerative disease and neurotrauma through TBI surrogates such as sport, military service, and experimental models, and the legitimacy of that marriage. In the 32 contributions included here, this handbook not only explores the deleterious effects of genuine TBI, but also, and more importantly, the relationship between TBI and neurodegeneration. Controversy notwithstanding, there is much to be learned about the biological effects of TBI, substrates for long-term sequelae, the relationship between TBI and diverse neuropsychiatric disorders, and targets for therapy. The overall message to the neuroscience community from these papers may be a cautionary tale. The null hypothesis, that there is no causal relationship between TBI and progressive neurodegenerative disease, appears to be very much in play, and the book will be of interest to all those working in the field.

All neurological conditions, common and less common, are discussed; each chapter has a similar format, and contains an initial brief introduction on the epidemiology and clinical features of each disease. The therapy is then discussed, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological, with wide use of Tables & Figures. Flowcharts are also included in most of the chapters.
