Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is one of the most versatile copolymer rubber compounds. It consists of the organic compound styrene and the chemical budatiene, with the amount of budatiene usually being about three times more than the amount of styrene. SBR is a stable synthetic rubber that is resistant to abrasion. It is used in a wide variety of products, such as automobile tires, childrens toys, shoe soles and even chewing gum. SBR is produced either through ionic polymerization of a solution or as an emulsion through free radical polymerisation. Also known as emulsion stryrenebutadiene rubber (E-SBR), this product was first developed in the 1930s by I.G. Farbenindustrie in Germany. It was created through an emulsion procedure that used polymerization as the means of producing a material that had a low reaction viscosity but had all the attribute of natural rubber. SBR was very cost-effective and was used to stretch dwindling natural rubber resources, especially in tire manufacturing at a time when tires were made of solid rubber.

Annotation. Many books and papers have been published on adhesion of materials in general but the topics covered by this book have been selected to cover a wide range of interests, both in terms of products and applications. Although there is some discussion of relevant theory in various sections of d104, the emphasis in this volume has been to concentrate on the practicalities of bonding of rubbers, to themselves and substrates. It is considered that this type of information is of immediate interest to the practising technologist dealing with shop floor problems on a daily basis.

Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (HNBR) is a synthetic polymer that results from the hydrogenation of Nitrile Rubber (NBR). It is widely known for its physical strength and retention of properties after long-term exposure to heat, oil, and chemicals. The unique properties attributed to it have resulted in wide adoption of HNBR in automotive, industrial, and assorted, performance-demanding applications. This practical guide covers everything from the manufacture of HNBR to processing in the finished part production facility. This book forms a complete guide for the practicing rubber formulator or process engineer dealing with HNBR technology.

Fibres, Films, Plastics and Rubbers: A Handbook of Common Polymers focuses on polymeric materials. The book first discusses a list of sections on individual polymers. Topics include olefin and vinyl-type, carbohydrate-type, synthetic condensation-type, organo-silicon, and inorganic polymers, as well as proteins. The text also looks at list of sections on specific properties and related information. The book then discusses polyethylenes, polypropylene, and polytetrafluoroethylene. The text also examines polystyrene. Concerns include the structure, chemistry, physics, fabrication, serviceability, and utilization of these materials. The text also focuses on indene and coumarone/indene resins; polyvinyl acetate and alcohol; polyvinyl formal, acetal, and butyral; and polyacrylates and polymethacrylates. The book then examines the structure, chemistry, physics, fabrication, serviceability, and utilization of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, cellulose, and cellulose acetate. The book also discusses the structure, chemistry, physics, fabrication, serviceability, and utilization of cellulose nitrate, cellulose ethers, starch, and regenerated proteins. Same type of evaluation is also done to polyamides, epoxy resins, polyformaldehyde, natural rubber, and nitrile rubbers. The text is a valuable source of information for readers interested in polymeric materials.
