This open access book traces the development of sociology in Germany from the late 19th century to the present day, providing a concise overview of the main actors, institutional processes, theories, methods, topics and controversies. Throughout the book, the author relates the disciplines history to its historical, economic, political and cultural contexts. The book begins with sociology in the German Reich, the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and exile, before exploring sociology after 1945 as a key discipline of the young Federal Republic of Germany, and reconstructing the periods from 1945 to 1968 and from 1968 to 1990. The final chapters are devoted to sociology in the German Democratic Republic and the period from 1990 to the present day. This work will appeal to students and scholars of sociology, and to a general readership interested in the history of Germany. Der Beitrag konzentriert sich auf die Transformation kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektiven und daraus resultierender Potentiale für eine Trans-Soziale Arbeit. Auf die Skizze bedeutungsstiftender traditionaler Varianten des Kulturbegriffs folgt eine systematische Rekonstruktion des Cultural Turns als paradigmatische Wende kulturwissenschaftlichen Denkens und Handelns. Untergliedert in die ihn zentral ausmachenden "Unterturns", wie interpretativer, reflexiver, performativer und postcolonialer Turn, werden seine zentralen erkenntniserweiternden ethnographischen, repräsentationskritischen, liminalen und hybriden Kategorien und Analyseinstrumente herausgearbeitet. Dargelegt wird, wie sich die Turns aktuell in einer praxeologischen Perspektive treffen und sich in Form transdisziplinärer Theorie- und Forschungsprogramme, den Studies, zunehmend institutionalisieren. Beginnend mit den Cultural Studies werden anschließend die Leitlinien der für die Soziale Arbeit besonders relevanten Gouvernemental, Space, Science, Queer und Disability Studies exemplarisch konkretisiert. Konstatiert wird, dass durch deren machtanalytischen, differenz- und kontingenzorientierten, selbstreflexiven, sich potentiell selbst dekonstruierenden Fokus Kultur endgültig ihre ästhetisierte soziale, ökonomische und politische Ortlosigkeit verliert. Kultur wird damit in den Status eines disziplinenübergreifend gültigen Leitbegriffes befördert, und Kulturanalyse avanciert dabei zu einem perspektivenerweiternden Baustein einer sich als translationale Grenzarbeit definierenden Sozialarbeit.

This book presents the outcomes of the trans- and interdisciplinary research project NEMo (Nachhaltige Erfüllung von Mobilitätsbedürfnissen im ländlichen Raum - Sustainable Fulfilment of Mobility Needs in Rural Areas). Due to demographic change, it is becoming increasingly difficult for rural districts and communities to maintain a basic set of public transport services such as bus and train transit without encountering issues regarding necessary social participation, sensible regional value creation and, last but not least, achievable environmental protection goals. At the same time, the demand for mobility in rural areas will continue to rise in the future, e.g. due to the concentration of medical care facilities and shopping centres close to cities. Focusing on the development of sustainable and innovative mobility services and business models, this book explains how new mobility offers can be created in which citizens themselves become mobility providers. To do so, it combines the findings of the individual research groups with external contributions from science and practice.

Emotions have moved center stage in many contemporary debates over religious diversity and multicultural recognition. As in other contested fields, emotions are often one-sidedly discussed as quintessentially subjective and individual phenomena, neglecting their social and cultural constitution. Moreover, emotionality in these debates is frequently attributed to the religious subject alone, disregarding the affective anatomy of the secular. This volume addresses these shortcomings, bringing into conversation a variety of disciplinary perspectives on religious and secular affect and emotion. The volume emphasizes two analytical perspectives: on the one hand, chapters take an immanent perspective, focusing on subjective feelings and emotions in relation to the religious and the secular. On the other hand, chapters take a relational perspective, looking at the role of affect and emotion in how the religious and the secular constitute one another. These perspectives cut across the three main parts of the volume: the first one addressing historical intertwinements of religion and emotion, the second part emphasizing affects, emotions, and religiosity, and the third part looking at specific sensibilities of the secular. The thirteen chapters provide a well-balanced composition of theoretical, methodological, and empirical approaches to these areas of inquiry, discussing both historical and contemporary cases.
