Diese Praxisbeispiele beziehen sich auf wirkliche Unternehmen, die in Positiv- und Negativbeispiele untergliedert werden. Die Umweltethik ist ein Teilgebiet der Philosophie, die nach dem guten Umgang des Menschen mit der Natur fragt. Es herrscht weithin Einigkeit darüber, dass der gute Umgang mit der Natur mit einem Naturschutz einhergeht. Es stellen sich folgende grundlegende Fragen: „Welche Teile der Umwelt sollten wir direkt moralisch berücksichtigen, dass heißt, weil sie einen inhärenten Wert haben oder bestimmten Anforderungen genügen?“ Beziehungsweise: „Welche Reichweite der ökologischen Ethik ist rechtfertigbar?“ Martin Gorke knüpft in seinem Text „Artensterben“ an diese Stelle an und liefert eine Argumentation zugunsten des Holismus - eine der wichtigsten physiozentrischen Strömungen in der Umweltethik. Folgt man Gorke, so führt seine Argumentation hinsichtlich der Frage von moralischer Berücksichtigungswürdigkeit zu einer „Umkehr der Beweislast“: Nicht mehr die Vertreter egalitärer, universal-ethischer Theorien stehen in primärer Begründungslast für ihre Position, sondern die Vertreter nicht-universaler Ethikkonzepte, welche meinen bestimmte Bereiche der Natur aus der Moral ausschließen zu müssen. Dieser Text will nun prüfen, ob Gorkes Argument zur Umkehr der Beweislast in seinem umweltethisch-holistischen Ansatz überzeugend ist. Dazu werde ich im ersten Teil, unter Berücksichtigung der umgekehrten Beweislast, Gorkes Argumentation darstellen und anschließend Kritikpunkte heranziehen, die in dem Artikel von Dierks im „Handbuch Umweltethik“ formuliert sind. Es folgt eine kritische Positionierung unter Einbezug des Gesagten, sowie meiner eigenen, weiterführenden Gedanken, und zuletzt ein Fazit, in dem ich den Inhalt erneut zusammenfasse und unter Berücksichtigung des Genannten die Forschungsfrage beantworte.

The novelty of the book is a strong focus on perception, perspectives and prediction by scientists with profound insight into the ecology of ecosystems or into human demands and activity. This book deals with environmental processes seen within a framework of the nature of ecosystems and human cultures. The future of the environment, the development of ecosystems and effective nature conservation management are the essentials of this book. Human nature and culture, and in particular their interactions, are interpreted as a set of rules and as given. The aim is not only to assess the significance of human influence on species composition and biodiversity but also to weigh up the subsequent potentials for action. In this book we will analyze the problems independently of one another, even if they are interconnected. This book focuses on perspectives and prognoses for the impacts of anthropogenic activity on ecosystems and thus on species conservation. Its goal is to improve assessments of the impacts of human activity on the environment. We are aware that prognoses have very often proven to be false. It is difficult to impossible to be able to predict with precision how evolution and ecosystems will change in future under anthropogenic influence. This strengthens our resolve to attempt to retain the highest possible degree of scientific integrity and professionalism and not to shy away from expressing the uncertainty of our own ideas and prognoses. We venture prognoses in this book and we will fail. However, we hope that we will be wrong on the right side.

This book draws upon economic and sociological theory to provide a comprehensive discussion of economic space for social innovation, addressing especially marginalized groups and the long-term projects, programmes, and policies that have emerged and evolved within and across European states. It approaches the explanatory and normative questions raised by this topic via a novel approach: the Extended Social Grid Model (ESGM). Taking inspiration from the fields of economic sociology and ethics, this model shows that social innovation processes must be structural, and require change in power relations, if marginalization is to be effectively dealt with via social innovation. Part I of the book sets out the ESGM, including an exposition on the model along with background chapters on innovation, power and marginalization, ethics and social innovation, and empirical methods. Part II explores the model with a focus on social innovation trajectories of social housing, drinking water provision, employment, education, and food provision. It also explores the operationalization of the model with a view to agency and empowerment, as well as social innovation policy in Europe and the use of social impact bonds as a tool for financing social innovation. Part III revisits the ESGM and considers the explanatory adequacy and fruitfulness of the model for innovation research and for theorizing social innovation, addressing questions on the role and limitations of participation in social innovation for the marginalized, the role of capital for creating economic space for capabilities, and how we can approach the social impact of social innovation. Sustainable Life on Land, the fifteenth UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 15), calls for the protection, restoration and promotion of the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Among others, it requires societies to sustainably manage forests, halt and reverse land degradation, combat desertification, and halt biodiversity loss. Despite the fact that protection of terrestrial ecosystems is on the rise worldwide and forest loss has slowed, the recent IPBES report concluded that “nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history”. Consequently, the United Nations General Assembly recently declared 2021–2030 the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. There is no doubt that the current global responses are far from sufficient and significant transformative changes of societies are needed to restore and protect nature and ecosystems. Transitioning to Sustainable Life on Land presents reviews, original research, and practical experiences from different disciplines with a focus on: theoretical and empirical reflection about the necessary transformation of values, institutions, markets, firms and policies, reviews and research on protection, restoration and sustainable use of diverse terrestrial ecosystems, analyses and reporting of encouraging local, regional, national, and global initiatives. Transitioning to Sustainable Life on Land is part of MDPI's new Open Access book series Transitioning to Sustainability.
