In 2014, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Fondation Cartier, Hans Ulrich Obrist imagined "The Infinite Conversation" - a title borrowed from Maurice Blanchot - a series of conversations with artists, scientists and thinkers close to the Fondation Cartier and its exhibition program. Since then, Hans Ulrich Obrist and the Fondation Cartier have renewed their collaboration. After Vivid Memories (2014), the exhibitions The Great Animal Orchestra (2016), Junya Ishigami, Freeing Architecture (2018), and Southern Geometries, from Mexico to Patagonia (2018) were the occasion of new "marathon dialogues" with other artists and contributors. The book, Infinite Conversations, gathers together all these 31 conversations in an invitation to transcend the borders between art disciplines.

Hans Ulrich Obrist met the Martinique-born philosopher, poet, and revolutionary Édouard Glissant in the mid-nineties; the encounter influenced the direction of Obrist's work for years to come. As one of today's most prolific producers of culture, Obrist has left an indelible mark and Glissant, in part, through him. Throughout 2021, during the pandemic and ten years after Glissant's death, Obrist has edited, reworked, and arranged their conversations in their entirety for the first time. THE ARCHIPELAGO CONVERSATIONS is the result: a book designed to introduce the most important philosopher of the 21st Century to a broad, public audience - a ready-to-hand tool for building an interdependent Earth.

Ways Of Curating written by Hans Ulrich Obrist and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-27 with Art categories.

Drawing on his own experiences and inspirations - from staging his first exhibition in his tiny Zurich kitchen in 1986 to encounters and conversations with artists, exhibition makers and thinkers alive and dead - Hans Ulrich Obrist's Ways of Curating looks to inspire all those engaged in the creation of culture. Moving from meetings with the artists who have inspired him (including Gerhard Richter and Gilbert and George) to the creation of the first public museums in the 18th century, recounting the practice of inspirational figures such as Diaghilev and Walter Hopps, skipping between exhibitions (his own and others), continents and centuries, Ways of Curating argues that curation is far from a static practice. Driven by curiosity, at its best it allows us to create the future.

The Age Of Earthquakes written by Douglas Coupland and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-24 with Social Science categories.

A highly provocative, mindbending, beautifully designed, and visionary look at the landscape of our rapidly evolving digital era. 50 years after Marshall McLuhan's ground breaking book on the influence of technology on culture in The Medium is the Massage, Basar, Coupland and Obrist extend the analysis to today, touring the world that’s redefined by the Internet, decoding and explaining what they call the 'extreme present'. THE AGE OF EARTHQUAKES is a quick-fire paperback, harnessing the images, language and perceptions of our unfurling digital lives. The authors offer five characteristics of the Extreme Present (see below); invent a glossary of new words to describe how we are truly feeling today; and ‘mindsource’ images and illustrations from over 30 contemporary artists. Wayne Daly’s striking graphic design imports the surreal, juxtaposed, mashed mannerisms of screen to page. It’s like a culturally prescient, all-knowing email to the reader: possibly the best email they will ever read. Welcome to THE AGE OF EARTHQUAKES, a paper portrait of Now, where the Internet hasn’t just changed the structure of our brains these past few years, it’s also changing the structure of the planet. This is a new history of the world that fits perfectly in your back pocket. 30+ artists contributions: With contributions from Farah Al Qasimi, Ed Atkins, Alessandro Bavo, Gabriele Basilico, Josh Bitelli, James Bridle, Cao Fei, Alex Mackin Dolan, Thomas Dozol, Constant Dullaart, Cecile B Evans, Rami Farook, Hans-Peter Feldmann, GCC, K-Hole, Liam Gillick, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Eloise Hawser, Camille Henrot, Hu Fang, K-Hole, Koo Jeong-A, Katja Novitskova, Lara Ogel, Trevor Paglen, Yuri Patterson, Jon Rafman, Bunny Rogers, Bogosi Sekhukhuni, Taryn Simon, Hito Steyerl, Michael Stipe, Rosemarie Trockel, Amalia Ulman, David Weir, Trevor Yeung.

“Insightful . . . should be on the bookshelf of anyone interested in contemporary art on the continent of Africa, its politics, its display, its economics.” —African Arts Art World City focuses on contemporary art and artists in the city of Dakar, a famously thriving art metropolis in the West African nation of Senegal. Joanna Grabski illuminates how artists earn their livelihoods from the city’s resources, possibilities, and connections. She examines how and why they produce and exhibit their work and how they make an art scene and transact with art world mediators such as curators, journalists, critics, art lovers, and collectors from near and far. Grabski shows that Dakar-based artists participate in a platform that has a global reach. They extend Dakar’s creative economy and the city’s urban vibe into an “art world city.” “In her fine-grained analysis, Joanna Grabski demonstrates the ways that the urban environment and the sites of art production, exhibition, and sale imbricate one another to constitute Dakar as an Art World City.” —Mary Jo Arnoldi, Curator, Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian “A valuable addition to the anthropology of cities and of art worlds. It stretches and revises the notion of art world to include multiple scales, and illustrates how the city enables simultaneous engagement for artists with local, national, Pan-African, and global discourses and platforms.” —City & Society “A beautiful book. The photographs, most of which are by the author, are stunning.” —College Art Association Reviews
