Niels Bohr, the founder of quantum mechanics, is generally considered to be one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century. His work revolutionized natural science, and his name is inscribed in history side by side with the names of Galileo, Newton, and Einstein. He won the Nobel Prize in physics for his model of the atom, which is still taught today in science classes everywhere. But the image of Bohr is complete only when the physicist is joined with the person Niels Bohr. This book, skillfully interweaving Bohr's scientific and personal life, is the first biography to be based on the extensive archives of the Bohr Institute of Physics in Copenhagen, and on excerpts from many of Bohr's letters to his family, his friends, and his colleagues. In addition, the book includes more than 150 photographs, as well as extracts from Bohr's personal correspondence to his wife, Margrethe, dating from the time of their engagement to just before his death 50 years later. This work of scientific biography is accessible to both the scientist and the general reader. Skillfully translated from the original Danish by Geoffrey French, the book has been carefully edited for an English-speaking readership.

De Witt H. Parker's 'The Principles of Aesthetics' is an essential exploration into the philosophical understanding of art, hinging upon the intricate relationships among beauty, expression, and the cultural milieu. Crafted with academic rigor, the book's prose distills complex theoretical concepts into accessible insights, woven seamlessly through historical reflection and critical exposition. Its origin as a series of university lectures grants the text an educational blueprint, aimed at elucidating the underpinnings of aesthetic appreciation and broadening the conceptual toolkit of its readers, be it students or intellectually curious individuals seeking clarity on art's profound significance. Parker's discourse captures the dynamic essence of aesthetics through a blend of personal reflection, artist case studies, and a survey of the prevailing artistic theories within his contemporary intellectual landscape. De Witt H. Parker, with a respectable career as a professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan, brought forth 'The Principles of Aesthetics' as a synthetic testament of his scholarly endeavors and pedagogical philosophy. This work encapsulates Parker's commitment to the dissemination of aesthetic theory, reflecting a lifetime of contemplation and scholarly debate. His academic lineage and intellectual environment were fertile grounds for his articulate treatise, aimed at equipping the next generation with the interpretive tools for an informed and profound experience of art. The tome not only builds upon the existing canon of aesthetic analysis but also innovates within it, asserting Parker's unique philosophical stance. With Parker's insight, 'The Principles of Aesthetics' becomes a recommended staple for anyone poised on the threshold of the art world, searching for a foundational but thoughtful engagement with artistic principles. Whether a student, artist, or a layperson hungry for aesthetic knowledge, this book promises to enrich one's perspective on art and its quintessential role in the human experience. It invites a meaningful reflection on art's power to encapsulate emotion, foster social unity, and transcend the constraints of temporality, marking it as a timelessly relevant work in the field of aesthetic philosophy.

Wisdom Of The Soul written by Ms. Dorothy Jones and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-10-11 with Poetry categories.

The purpose of this book of poetry entitled "Wisdom Of The Soul," is to attempt to strengthen and enlighten, not to judge nor condemn. Its purpose also is to touch the lives, and to share in the encouragement of others and hopefully touching their hearts and saving of souls. The author speaks out through her poetry for those who want and need to be heard. Her desire is to reach the world of the needy, whether it be a spiritual need, natural need, emotional need or any or all of these factors. She desire her poetry to be a positive orator conveying the fact that love, faith, hope and all goodness and truth overcomes hatred, fear, prejudice, and all wrong-doings, and evil intentions. Through the writing of poetry, the author submerge deeply within herself going beyond her mind, but into her heart and soul emerging with the truths which convicted her to write with experience, strong conviction, and ardent passion for those who have been and still are victimized by various forms of conflicts and adversities in their lives. She desire the words of her poetry to come forth pure and clean-edged; going beyond the surface, from depth to depth, and to be a blessing and beneficial to all. The author continually attempt to instill in others through poetry the importance of living within the bounds of righteousness in order to inherit the kingdom of God, "for unrighteousness shall not inherit the kingdom of God." She emphasize the fact that we need to get ourselves ready for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are living in the last time, and Jesus Christ is still extending his love and mercy toward mankind wanting all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. We must put aside all ungodliness, and seek Gods face; putting him first in our lives. The author desires her poems to capture the suppressed emotions that ones are too shy, embarrassed, or intimidated to express openly for fear of retaliation from others. We must not be afraid to speak out for truth and justice, fearing no man, who can only destroy our bodies, but fearing only God who can destroy both body and soul. The author writes about life and about death. She attest to the belief that our mortal lives should be lived to the fulliest daily in Gods way and after his will in order to obtain immortality and eternal life. Thus death in the end shall have no dominion over Eternal Life, and there is hope beyond the grave; if we die in Christ Jesus. To fear the Lord Jesus, to grow in grace and knowledge of him, to love, to be pure and faithful and to do all things in spirit and in truth is to truly obtain spiritual wisdom.

Yallourn was designed in the 1920s as a garden town, laid out on “hygienic and aesthetic principles” embodying “the most modern practice.” It became a thriving and close-knit community that was home to several generations of State Electricity Commission (SEC) workers and their families. By the 1960s, however, it was being portrayed as outmoded, “unattractive to modern housewives,” decrepit, and obsolete. The town was no longer described as a model town but as an area that had to be cleared. This book brings to life the impact of the town and its demise on the individuals who lived there and on the community they created—a community that still exists vividly in memory and imagination.

Society and the Supernatural in Song China is at once a meticulous examination of spirit possession and exorcism in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and a social history of the full panoply of China's religious practices and practitioners at the moment when she was poised to dominate the world economy. Although the Song dynasty (960-1276) is often identified with the establishment of Confucian orthodoxy, Edward Davis demonstrates the renewed vitality of the dynasty's Taoist, Buddhist, and local religious traditions. He charts the rise of hundreds of new temple-cults and the lineages of clerical exorcists and vernacular priests; the increasingly competitive interaction among all practitioners of therapeutic ritual; and the wide social range of their patrons and clients.
