Is the Bible God’s Word? Yes. Is Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, and the only Mediator between a sinful people and a perfect, holy, and righteous God? Yes! Is the Christian faith supported by reasonable, provable, historical, archaeological, and philosophical evidence? Yes, yes, and yes! The word apologetics comes from two Greek words, apo (out from) and logos (logic), and it literally means to give out a logical defense (apologia). In Christianity, it means to give out logical reasons for our faith, to defend the truth of Scripture, and to give reasons for believing in Christ. Like Paul, I am “set for the defense (apologia) of the gospel” (Philippians 1:17). Like Peter, I am “ready always to give an answer (apologia)” to everyone who asks why I trust Christ (1 Peter 3:15). Like Jude, I am prepared to earnestly contend (epi-agnízomai: agonize, fight) for the faith (Jude 3). I have written this book to defend and contend for the Christian faith; I want to let others know why I believe the Bible is God’s Word and Jesus is God’s Son (2 Timothy 3:16; John 1:34).

The Return Of Resentment written by Robert A. Schneider and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-17 with History categories.
Charts the long history of resentment, from its emergence to its establishment as the word of the moment. The term “resentment,” often casually paired with words like “hatred,” “rage,” and “fear,” has dominated US news analysis since November 2016. Despite its increased use, this word seems to defy easy categorization. Does “resentment” describe many interlocking sentiments, or is it just another way of saying “anger”? Does it suggest an irrational grievance, as opposed to a legitimate callout of injustice? Does it imply political leanings, or is it nonpartisan by nature? In The Return of Resentment, Robert A. Schneider explores these questions and more, moving from eighteenth-century Britain to the aftermath of the French Revolution to social movements throughout the twentieth century. Drawing on a wide range of writers, thinkers, and historical experiences, Schneider illustrates how resentment has morphed across time, coming to express a collective sentiment felt by people and movements across the political spectrum. In this history, we discover resentment’s modernity and its ambiguity—how it can be used to dismiss legitimate critique and explain away violence, but also convey a moral stance that demands recognition. Schneider anatomizes the many ways resentment has been used to label present-day movements, from followers of Trump and supporters of Brexit to radical Islamicists and proponents of identity politics. Addressing our contemporary political situation in a novel way, The Return of Resentment challenges us to think critically about the roles different emotions play in politics.

Rigorously inventive and revelatory in its adventurousness, 1650–1850 opens a forum for the discussion, investigation, and analysis of the full range of long-eighteenth-century writing, thinking, and artistry. Combining fresh considerations of prominent authors and artists with searches for overlooked or offbeat elements of the Enlightenment legacy, 1650–1850 delivers a comprehensive but richly detailed rendering of the first days, the first principles, and the first efforts of modern culture. Its pages open to the works of all nations and language traditions, providing a truly global picture of a period that routinely shattered boundaries. Volume 28 of this long-running journal is no exception to this tradition of focused inclusivity. Readers will experience two blockbuster multi-author special features that explore both the deep traditions and the new frontiers of early modern studies: one that views adaptation and digitization through the lens of “Sterneana,” the vast literary and cultural legacy following on the writings of Laurence Sterne, a legacy that sweeps from Hungarian renditions of the puckish novelist through the Bloomsbury circle and on into cybernetics, and one that pays tribute to legendary scholar Irwin Primer by probing the always popular but also always challenging writings of that enigmatic poet-philosopher, Bernard Mandeville. All that, plus the usual cavalcade of full-length book reviews. ISSN: 1065-3112 Published by Bucknell University Press, distributed worldwide by Rutgers University Press.
