Hasse Schmidt Derivations On Grassmann Algebras written by Letterio Gatto and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-08 with Mathematics categories.

This book provides a comprehensive advanced multi-linear algebra course based on the concept of Hasse-Schmidt derivations on a Grassmann algebra (an analogue of the Taylor expansion for real-valued functions), and shows how this notion provides a natural framework for many ostensibly unrelated subjects: traces of an endomorphism and the Cayley-Hamilton theorem, generic linear ODEs and their Wronskians, the exponential of a matrix with indeterminate entries (Putzer's method revisited), universal decomposition of a polynomial in the product of two monic polynomials of fixed smaller degree, Schubert calculus for Grassmannian varieties, and vertex operators obtained with the help of Schubert calculus tools (Giambelli's formula). Significant emphasis is placed on the characterization of decomposable tensors of an exterior power of a free abelian group of possibly infinite rank, which then leads to the celebrated Hirota bilinear form of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy describing the Plücker embedding of an infinite-dimensional Grassmannian. By gathering ostensibly disparate issues together under a unified perspective, the book reveals how even the most advanced topics can be discovered at the elementary level.

This is the first of two volumes dedicated to the centennial of the distinguished mathematician Selim Grigorievich Krein. The companion volume is Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 734. Krein was a major contributor to functional analysis, operator theory, partial differential equations, fluid dynamics, and other areas, and the author of several influential monographs in these areas. He was a prolific teacher, graduating 83 Ph.D. students. Krein also created and ran, for many years, the annual Voronezh Winter Mathematical Schools, which significantly influenced mathematical life in the former Soviet Union. The articles contained in this volume are written by prominent mathematicians, former students and colleagues of Selim Krein, as well as lecturers and participants of Voronezh Winter Schools. They are devoted to a variety of contemporary problems in functional analysis, operator theory, several complex variables, topological dynamics, and algebraic, convex, and integral geometry.

An Invitation To Modern Enumerative Geometry written by Andrea T. Ricolfi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-14 with Mathematics categories.

This book is based on a series of lectures given by the author at SISSA, Trieste, within the PhD courses Techniques in enumerative geometry (2019) and Localisation in enumerative geometry (2021). The goal of this book is to provide a gentle introduction, aimed mainly at graduate students, to the fast-growing subject of enumerative geometry and, more specifically, counting invariants in algebraic geometry. In addition to the more advanced techniques explained and applied in full detail to concrete calculations, the book contains the proofs of several background results, important for the foundations of the theory. In this respect, this text is conceived for PhD students or research “beginners” in the field of enumerative geometry or related areas. This book can be read as an introduction to Hilbert schemes and Quot schemes on 3-folds but also as an introduction to localisation formulae in enumerative geometry. It is meant to be accessible without a strong background in algebraic geometry; however, three appendices (one on deformation theory, one on intersection theory, one on virtual fundamental classes) are meant to help the reader dive deeper into the main material of the book and to make the text itself as self-contained as possible.

This book challenges and intrigues from beginning to end. It would be a treat to use for a capstone course or senior seminar. —William J. Satzer, MAA Reviews on Glimpses of Soliton Theory (First Edition) Solitons are nonlinear waves which behave like interacting particles. When first proposed in the 19th century, leading mathematical physicists denied that such a thing could exist. Now they are regularly observed in nature, shedding light on phenomena like rogue waves and DNA transcription. Solitons of light are even used by engineers for data transmission and optical switches. Furthermore, unlike most nonlinear partial differential equations, soliton equations have the remarkable property of being exactly solvable. Explicit solutions to those equations provide a rare window into what is possible in the realm of nonlinearity. Glimpses of Soliton Theory reveals the hidden connections discovered over the last half-century that explain the existence of these mysterious mathematical objects. It aims to convince the reader that, like the mirrors and hidden pockets used by magicians, the underlying algebro-geometric structure of soliton equations provides an elegant explanation of something seemingly miraculous. Assuming only multivariable calculus and linear algebra, the book introduces the reader to the KdV Equation and its multisoliton solutions, elliptic curves and Weierstrass $wp$-functions, the algebra of differential operators, Lax Pairs and their use in discovering other soliton equations, wedge products and decomposability, the KP Hierarchy, and Sato's theory relating the Bilinear KP Equation to the geometry of Grassmannians. Notable features of the book include: careful selection of topics and detailed explanations to make the subject accessible to undergraduates, numerous worked examples and thought-provoking exercises, footnotes and lists of suggested readings to guide the interested reader to more information, and use of Mathematica® to facilitate computation and animate solutions. The second edition refines the exposition in every chapter, adds more homework exercises and projects, updates references, and includes new examples involving non-commutative integrable systems. Moreover, the chapter on KdV multisolitons has been greatly expanded with new theorems providing a thorough analysis of their behavior and decomposition.

Ausdehnungslehre written by Hermann Günther Grassmann and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Mathematics categories.

The Ausdehnungslehre of 1862 is Grassmann's most mature presentation of his "extension theory". The work was unique in capturing the full sweep of his mathematical achievements. Compared with Grassmann's first book, Lineale Ausdehnungslehre, this book contains an enormous amount of new material, including a detailed development of the inner product and its relation to the concept of angle, the "theory of functions" from the point of view of extension theory, and Grassmann's contribution to the Pfaff problem. In many ways, this book is the version of Grassmann's system most accessible to contemporary readers. This translation is based on the material in Grassmann's "Gesammelte Werke", published by B. G. Teubner (Stuttgart and Leipzig, Germany). It includes nearly all the Editorial Notes from that edition, but the "improved" proofs are relocated, and Grassmann's original proofs are restored to their proper places. The original Editorial Notes are augmented by Supplementary Notes, elucidating Grassmann's achievement in modern terms. This is the third in an informal sequence of works to be included within the History of Mathematics series, co-published by the AMS and the London Mathematical Society. Volumes in this subset are classical mathematical works that served as cornerstones for modern mathematical thought.

Schubert Calculus And Its Applications In Combinatorics And Representation Theory written by Jianxun Hu and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-24 with Mathematics categories.

This book gathers research papers and surveys on the latest advances in Schubert Calculus, presented at the International Festival in Schubert Calculus, held in Guangzhou, China on November 6–10, 2017. With roots in enumerative geometry and Hilbert's 15th problem, modern Schubert Calculus studies classical and quantum intersection rings on spaces with symmetries, such as flag manifolds. The presence of symmetries leads to particularly rich structures, and it connects Schubert Calculus to many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, combinatorics, representation theory, and theoretical physics. For instance, the study of the quantum cohomology ring of a Grassmann manifold combines all these areas in an organic way. The book is useful for researchers and graduate students interested in Schubert Calculus, and more generally in the study of flag manifolds in relation to algebraic geometry, combinatorics, representation theory and mathematical physics.

This book presents the Determinant theory with the use of hypercomplex Grassmann figures. It simplifies the proof of many determinant features. It also states several ways of solutions of linear algebraic systems, most of which are connected with the Determinant theory. The teaching experience in technical universities has demonstrated that the suggested way of presenting the Determinant theory is understood more easily. The title of the book is explained by a desire to attract readers' attention to the well-known in the algebra sphere while introducing a new and more convenient way to present the Determinant theory for technical universities.

Affine Vertex And W Algebras written by Dražen Adamović and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-28 with Mathematics categories.

This book focuses on recent developments in the theory of vertex algebras, with particular emphasis on affine vertex algebras, affine W-algebras, and W-algebras appearing in physical theories such as logarithmic conformal field theory. It is widely accepted in the mathematical community that the best way to study the representation theory of affine Kac–Moody algebras is by investigating the representation theory of the associated affine vertex and W-algebras. In this volume, this general idea can be seen at work from several points of view. Most relevant state of the art topics are covered, including fusion, relationships with finite dimensional Lie theory, permutation orbifolds, higher Zhu algebras, connections with combinatorics, and mathematical physics. The volume is based on the INdAM Workshop Affine, Vertex and W-algebras, held in Rome from 11 to 15 December 2017. It will be of interest to all researchers in the field.
