"Analysing health policy explores Australian health policy using a novel, problem-orientated approach. It shows the problem-solving techniques that are used when developing policy and demonstrates the skills of analysis and decision making.Introductory chapters explain the problem-orientated approach to health policy development and introduce the policy making process. Case studies then explore developments in health policy in both priority and topical areas. Chapters illustrate how policy-makers respond to perennial and emerging policy problems and demonstrate problem-solving approaches to the conception, development and implementation of health policy."--Provided by publisher.

Rural Australia has faced many economic and demographic disadvantages. Advances in medical technology and economic reforms have led to the closure or near closure of many rural hospitals. Since the late 1980s, the Australian government has increased their focus on the quality and functionality of rural health. Most notable was the development of a rural health strategy and the introduction of flexibly funded, integrated health services, otherwise known as Multipurpose Services (MPS). Healthcare Reform and Interests Groups explores the resistance that the MPSs encountered from rural health professionals and rural communities in Australia. The MPS program in Victoria provided an opportunity to review the response of structural interest groups when the status quo is challenged. Healthcare Reform and Interest Groups analyzes the development of the MPS program in Victoria, in particular the processes and outcomes associated with the development of an MPS in Corryong, a small town in Victoria. The study led to the testing of findings in other Victorian communities. The goal of the study was to understand why the Victorian MPS program, developed to help improve the distribution of rural health services, was met with such resistance. With interesting analysis of the power and conflict issues between rural general practictioners, the government, and healt bureaucrats, Healthcare Reform and Interest Groups examines the critical role of the community in Australia's healthcare reform.

Australia's Rural, Remote and Indigenous Health 3e is a practical guide to the delivery of health care in rural and remote Australia. Drawing on personal experiences of rural and remote practitioners, historical accounts, literature analysis and epidemiology, this frank and engaging text examines the economic, social and political forces that shape healthcare in rural and remote Australia. With limited current resources to support studies in rural and remote healthcare, this title bridges the gap by offering valuable insights into Indigenous life and social determinants of health through the use of storytelling. It is the perfect guide for anyone working in or planning to work in rural, remote or Indigenous Australia; and for those undertaking cultural studies, or social policy. Only text covering both rural and remote health in Australia Placement preparation with StudentConsult video interviews of experienced rural and remote practitioners providing first-hand experience of rural and remote practice Pause and Think questions provide a framework to apply learned knowledge to practice Pause and think question boxes train the reader to critically assess and apply concepts to practical situations. Public Health Practice In Australia written by Sally Fawkes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-16 with Medical categories.

Public Health Practice in Australia offers a thorough introduction to what public health practitioners do, and the 'effort' involved in improving the health of the public. This second edition has been fully revised and updated in line with current policies and practice. It highlights common threads that underlie seemingly disparate activities, ideas and entities that comprise the organised effort of public health practice. The emphasis is on securing and maintaining the conditions in society that enable people to live healthy and fulfilling lives. The authors examine the impact of historical, social, economic, environmental and political factors on the health of individuals, communities and populations. Taking an applied, multidisciplinary approach, they outline the strategies and tools that public health practitioners use to improve health outcomes: identifying infrastructure needs in the workforce, public and private sector organisations, and in regulation; gathering, analysing and using health data; applying interventions in health policy, provision of health services and health promotion. Public Health Practice in Australia draws on current international and Australian research and the interwoven case studies make the theories and concepts come alive. It is a valuable resource for students and professionals across the health sciences including public health, medicine, environmental health, health promotion, health information management and health administration. 'The book is impressive in the completeness, clarity and consistency of the material covered, and for the way in which many of the theoretical issues are related to current practice. An extremely useful and valuable reference for both students and practitioners alike.' - Thomas Tenkate, Environmental Health
