Most patients we see in both developed and developing countries, are suffering from diseases that are preventable. Of all their healthcare needs, the greatest by far is for reliable health information. Although evidence-based life-saving information is available from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other sources, it seldom reaches our patients, or even their healthcare providers. The Health Education Program for Developing Countries was created to provide the most important health care information to the people who need it most. The program: -empowers physicians, teachers, churches and patients to save lives and relieve suffering through health promotion and prevention of their most common and serious health conditions. -addresses the most important health problems in developed, as well, as developing countries. -emphasizes the WHO top 10 leading risk factors globally that cause the most deaths and suffering. -includes the current world-wide epidemic of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. -describes WHO evidence-based guidelines for the prevention and care of these as well as other common diseases through reducing risk and promoting healthy life. -includes mental health and other recommendations for recovering from disasters, physical or sexual assault, or other serious accidental or war-inflicted injury. -enables a holistic approach to care of the whole person: body, mind and spirit. -promotes evidence-based recommendations for care from the WHO and its collaborating partners, such as the CDC. -was developed for use by non-medical as well as medical people, and can be easily individualized to meet the most important needs of your community. -includes the written Handbook and 56 full-color 8.5 x 11 inch teaching Illustrations. -enables the integration of Personal/Primary Care and Public/Community Health, at all three WHO Health Pyramid levels of care: 1.Hospital, 2.Clinic/Health Center, and 3.Family/Community. This remains the key to community transformation and the success of healthcare systems in both developed and developing countries. -PDF versions are available in English, French, Khmer, Mandarin and Spanish, with more languages coming. -Additional information and free downloading are available at www.hepfdc.info

Health Literacy written by Institute of Medicine and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-10 with Medical categories.

The roots of health literacy can be traced back to the national literacy movement in India under Gandhi and to aid groups working in Africa to promote education and health. The term health literacy was first used in 1974 and described as "health education meeting minimal standards for all school grade levels". From that first use the definition of health literacy evolved during the next 30 years with official definitions promulgated by government agencies and large programs. Despite differences among these definitions, they all hold in common the idea that health literacy involves the need for people to understand information that helps them maintain good health. Although the United States produces a majority of the research on health literacy, Europe has strong multinational programs as well as research efforts, and health literacy experts in developing countries have created successful programs implemented on a community level. Given these distinct strengths of efforts worldwide, there are many opportunities for collaboration. International collaboration can harness the United States' research power, Europe's multilingual and multinational experience, and developing nations' community-based programs to create robust programs and research that reach people-not based on language or nationality but on need and value. A workshop on international health literacy efforts that feature presentations and discussion about health literacy interventions from various countries as well as other topics related to international health literacy was held as the basis for this report. Health Literacy: Improving Health, Health Systems, and Health Policy Around the World summarizes the findings and discussions at the workshop.

Institutionalizing Health And Education For All written by Colette Chabbott and has been published by Teachers College Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-15 with Education categories.

Health for All and Education for All have been rallying cries for a host of international development activities for more than a quarter century. Where did these global goals come from? Why have the health goals seemingly advanced so much faster than those in education? In this book, author Colette Chabbott explores the foundational role that international development organizations and the innovations they champion have played in shaping and advancing such goals. Chabbott demonstrates the importance of science and measurement in rendering some innovations more universal and compelling than others. Her analysis includes in-depth case studies of innovations developed at the grassroots and scaled up at the national and international levels by the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research and by BRAC, once a Bangladeshi now a major international NGO. These studies all suggest that greater investment in new types of education research, based in the Third World, but with strong ties to research centers of international scope in the First World, are likely the prerequisites for achieving better, cheaper, faster universal education. This important book will provoke scholars, students, and international development practitioners to think more deeply about the cultural and scientific underpinnings of education and international development. The authors careful analyses are particularly needed as the international community defines new global goals for the post-2015 era.
