Der Film gilt als Leitmedium unserer Gesellschaft. Er behandelt alles, was im Leben von Bedeutung ist: die Geburt, den Tod, Trennungen, Liebe und erörtert soziale Konflikte. Obwohl der Film ein so wichtiges Medium für unsere Gesellschaft darstellt, wurde er in der Soziologie weitgehend vernachlässigt. Gerade der Bereich der Film- und Genderforschung trat erst sehr spät in den Mittelpunkt des theoretischen Interesses. Zudem galten die Untersuchungen in diesem Bereich hauptsächlich der feministischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Film. Die vernachlässigte Untersuchung von Männlichkeit im Film gab den Anstoß für diese Arbeit und die damit verbundene Auseinandersetzung mit Connells „Hegemonialen Männlichkeit“ als auch Bourdieus „Männlichem Habitus“. Um die Entwicklung der Männerbilder im Film aufzuzeigen, soll der Zeitraum der letzten fünfzig Jahre betrachtet werden. Vorab wird jedoch ein theoretischer Einblick in die obengenannten Theorien gewährt. Als filmische Grundlage dienen die Filme „The Graduate“ (1967), „Annie Hall“ (1977), „When Harry Met Sally“ (1989), „American Beauty“ (1999) und „Up In The Air“ (2009). Für die Analyse von Männlichkeit im Film stellt sich die Frage nach einer gelungenen Inszenierung von Maskulinität. Welche historisch geltenden Normen fließen in die dargestellte Form der Männlichkeit ein, und werden somit auch zu filmischen Normen? Man mag sich über die Eigenschaften der männlichen und weiblichen Stereotypen nicht unbedingt direkt einig sein, dennoch gibt es – gerade hinsichtlich des männlichen Stereotypes – bestimmte Eigenschaften, die über die Zeit relativ konstant geblieben sind. Leistungsstreben, Aktivität oder Stärke gelten u.a. für die dargestellten Formen der Männlichkeit im Film. Grundsätzlich ist der männliche Stereotyp häufig stärker ausgeprägt, „d.h. als typisch männlich bezeichnete Eigenschaften überwiegen oft jene, die als typisch weiblich gelten.“ (Hißnauer/Klein 2002: 25) Freilich bestand die Möglichkeit diesbezüglich eine komplette Abhandlung über „Rambo: First Blood“ niederzuschreiben. Mit der Auswahl der Filme von „The Graduate“ bis „Up In The Air“ soll jedoch eine andere Form der Hegemonialen Männlichkeit verdeutlicht werden. In diesem Filmen finden sich vorwiegend die Anti-Helden als Protagonisten wieder. Sexuelle Beziehungen, teils unverbindlich, spielen zu dem in jedem der Filme eine bedeutende Rolle. Pre-University Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Didactics - English - Literature, Works, grade: 2, , language: English, abstract: Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" was published in 1834. It is a story of a murder who tells us how he acted out his plan. Through this, the narrator wants to convince us that he is not insane because " Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded". He insists that his plan was without passion. He only murders the old man because of his blue eye, after which he hides his body under the floorboards. Then three policemen show up. They were alerted through the scream of the old man. The narrator allows them in. He feels safe because of how well he hid the body. While he is talking to the three-man, he starts to hear the old man's heart beating through the floor. It grows louder and louder until he confesses the murder. The first time I stumbled upon this story was trough a reading published online by the Poe Museum. Instantly I was hooked as it was not just a reading but also a discussion about the protagonist's accountability. I have read some American literature over the years, but the horror stories always engaged me the most. The difference between someone like H.P. Lovecraft, who writes fantastical and outer worlds stories, Poe's storys always seem more human, more natural. They were about people and what scared them at the time. It was not until some odd weeks later that when I thought about what I could choose as a topic for a term paper, I thought back to myself, this discussion would be fascinating to flash out even more, so, decided it was. Firstly, I will summaries Poe's life and the historical cases on which the story is based. Then, I will analyse the story, after which I will conclude if the protagonist is accountable or not.
