In this moving tale of intimacy, redemption, and trust by a New York Times–bestselling author, a woman’s new relationship forces her to face her past. For a long time, Elle Kavanaugh has defined herself by her professional success and her unapologetic attitude for the personal choices she’s made. She’s never wanted intimacy—doesn’t need the mess it brings with it. She’s been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men who think that what’s between their legs makes up for what they lack between their ears. Sometimes, she gives herself over to it—as long as there are no strings attached. But after meeting Dan Stewart, Elle starts wanting things she never has before. And the problem with wanting is that can be like pouring water into a vase full of stones—it fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else . . . “Reisz continues to surprise . . . her work is raising the bar for erotic fiction. This is not your mother’s Harlequin romance.” —New York Journal of Books No safe word can protect the heart . . . Infamous erotica author and accomplished dominatrix Nora Sutherlin is doing something utterly out of character: hiding. While her longtime lover, Søren—whose fetishes, if exposed, would be his ruin—is under scrutiny pending a major promotion, Nora’s lying low and away from temptation in the lap of luxury. Her host, the wealthy and uninhibited Griffin Fiske, is thrilled to have Nora stay at his country estate, especially once he meets her traveling companion. Young, inexperienced and angelically beautiful, Michael has become Nora’s protégé, and this summer with Griffin is going to be his training, where the hazing never ends. But while her flesh is willing, Nora’s mind is wandering. To thoughts of Søren, her master, under investigation by a journalist with an ax to grind. And to another man from Nora’s past, whose hold on her is less bruising, but whose secrets are no less painful. It’s a summer that will prove the old adage: love hurts. “Tiffany Reisz’s The Original Sinners series is painful, prideful, brilliant, beautiful, hopeful, and heart-breaking. And that’s just the first hundred pages.” —Courtney Milan, New York Times–bestselling author “I loved The Original Sinners series . . . Her prose is quite beautiful, and she can weave a wonderful tight story.” —Jennifer Probst, New York Times–bestselling author “I worship at the altar of Tiffany Reisz! Whip smart, sexy as hell—The Original Sinners series knocked me to my knees.” —Lorelei James, New York Times–bestselling author

The Sleepwalkers written by Hermann Broch and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-15 with Fiction categories.

First published in the US in 1932, The Sleepwalkers is about three protagonists "sleepwalking", that is, living between vanishing and emerging ethical systems just as the somnambulist exists in a state between sleeping and waking. Together they present a panorama of German society and its progressive deterioration of values that culminated in defeat and collapse at the end of World War I. The novel explores what Broch described as "the loneliness of the I" in its three parts. The protagonists of the first two parts of the book are represented as holding to certain sets of values. Broch describes the struggles they undergo as their codes for living, or values, prove inadequate to the realities of the social environment they find themselves in. Joachim von Pasenow in the first part is "the romantic". In the second part, August Esch tries to live according to the motto "business is business". Eventually, in the third part, the amoral Huguenau's only standard for behavior is his personal profit. He follows this maxim in all his actions, swindling and murdering without remorse. Ultimately, he reaches a point of zero values without remorse and his dealings bring him finally to the zero point of values. Although Broch doesn't hold Huguenau up as someone to admire, he does present him as the inevitable harbinger of fascism. As one reviewer noted, "His characters are sleepwalkers because their own lives are shaped by the forces of the nightmare reality in which they live."

This new collection of essays by West Germany's most distinguished Roman Catholic theologian covers the two broad areas indicated in the title. The first half discusses the Christian understanding of God; the place of Christianity in the modern world; the modern sense of freedom and history and the theological definition of human rights; christology and anthropology; and the possibilities of a new spiritual christology in a trinitarian setting. The second half discusses various aspects of the church: as universal sacrament of salvation; as the place of truth and as communion. Two final studies examine the continuing challenge of the Second Vatican Council and the fundamental form and meaning of the eucharist. An extended introduction considers systematic theology today and the tasks which confront it.
