Die hier von Günter Brakelmann veröffentlichten von Heinrich Winkelmann in den Jahren 1940 bis 1944 an seine Brüder im Glauben im Zweiten Weltkrieg geschriebenen zwölf Soldatenbriefe sowie die Sonntagsbriefe an seine Kinder zeigen eine Frömmigkeit, die gerade im pietistischen Lager des kirchlichen Protestantismus viele Anhänger gehabt hat. Dabei sind die Ähnlichkeiten zwischen der hier dargestellten Frömmigkeit im damaligen Bochumer CVJM im Zweiten Weltkrieg und der von mir erlebten pietistischen Frömmigkeit in der Zeit nach dem Krieg im Siegerland frappierend. Es ist Günter Brakelmann zu verdanken, hier eine außergewöhnliche Studie vorzulegen, die exemplarisch tiefe Einblicke in dieses religiöse und politische Denken einer Gruppe von Christen gibt, die durch den CVJM ihre besondere Prägung erhalten hatte. Für sie war das Zentrum des christlichen Glaubens die Erlösung durch Jesus Christus durch seinen Tod und seine Auferstehung. Heinrich Winkelmann hat zu dieser entschiedenen Glaubenshaltung irgendwann in der Zeit zwischen dem Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg gefunden, durch wen, wann genau und wie, erfahren wir nicht. Was uns heute erstaunen und unverständlich vorkommen mag, ist die Tatsache, dass für Heinrich Winkelmann, so sehr wie die Nachfolge Jesu Christi im Zentrum seines Glaubens- und Lebensverständnisses stand, gleichzeitig seine politische Parteinahme dem Führer Adolf Hitler galt. Christusnachfolge und Führertreue konnte er ohne Probleme miteinander verschränken. Für viele Christen war diese Verbindung in dieser Zeit durchaus üblich. Die aus der Kaiserzeit stammende Erziehung zum absoluten Gehorsam gegenüber Autoritäten, die unverbrüchliche Treue zu einem einmal geleisteten Eid, verbunden mit einer geradezu inbrünstigen Liebe zu Deutschland als dem Vaterland und einer ebenso herzlichen Liebe zu Jesus Christus, dem Heiland, verbunden mit der Erwartung einer ewigen Heimat bei ihm waren die Kennzeichen dieser Frömmigkeit. So haben Heinrich Winkelmann und seine Frau auch ihre Kinder erzogen und unhinterfragt eine entsprechende Haltung und einen ebensolchen Glauben von ihnen erwartet. Es war der Ausdruck ihrer Liebe zu ihnen. Obwohl Heinrich Winkelmann Parteimitglied war, finden wir trotz seiner Führertreue gleichzeitig eine Zurückhaltung gegenüber der Ideologie des Nationalsozialismus. Darüber erfahren wir von Winkelmann kein Wort. Er schweigt ebenso über die uns heute bekannten Kriegsverbrechen der Wehrmacht und der SS.
