This book has been designed to give you a better understanding of behavior related to sensory processing in autism, especially if your child has recently been diagnosed. So much attention is placed on behavior in autism and often the underlying sensory-related cause is overlooked. It is important to understand the sensory processing challenges that autistic children experience on a daily basis, and how it affects their behavior. This is the focus of my work with parents and teachers. I am an early childhood development specialist, with a further qualification as an educational facilitator. I specialized in facilitating sensory integration methods in the home and in the classroom after my son's diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. I did this because I saw the positive changes that sensory integration therapy had on his life. I have two more children, with my youngest diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. The only remedial strategy that has helped me understand my children has been the approach of sensory integration. It was my lightbulb moment after my son was diagnosed and, because we had so much success with it, I believe that every other parent and child deserves the opportunities for development it presents.
