Arrêtée en 1943, emprisonnée à Lyon, elle réussit à s'évader une première fois. Quelques mois plus tard, sur dénonciation, elle est appréhendée par la Gestapo. On ne retrouvera son corps qu'en 1945.Telle une journaliste d'investigation, Mireille Albrecht va consacrer sa vie à élucider le mystère de la disparition de sa mère. Pendant vingt-cinq ans, elle va enquêter, des archives de Fresnes aux couloirs de l'Élysée, et réussir enfin à retrouver la personne qui l'a dénoncée. Cette femme, un agent double qui travaillait à la fois pour la Gestapo et les hautes autorités françaises, finira par tout lui avouer. Mireille ne manquera pas de filmer cette confession, replaçant la disparition de Berty Albrecht au coeur des secrets politiques passés à la trappe de l'histoire.Dans ce livre, Mireille Albrecht nous entraîne dans les vingt années passées auprès de sa mère. This literary history explores the reality of European women's roles in fighting Nazism. By comparing the resistance literature of French and German authors, this book links the traditional gender expectations for women and the conventions of their everyday lives with their unique forms of resistance. Theirs was an opposition grounded in the ordinary, beyond the sphere of political violence. Women were long regarded as outsiders to combat and politics, with no stake in upholding resistance myths. Women authors therefore freely rendered the personal and moral landscape of the resister's world in a new vocabulary. They revised standard rhetoric and replaced heroism and bullets with the values of home, human relationships, and candid acknowledgement of the sorrow, fear, and uncertainty of war.
