Vanaf 1987 is in de zorg geleidelijk het stelsel van gereguleerde marktwerking ingevoerd. Het economische aspect daarvan is op de voorgrond komen te staan. Dat sijpelt door tot in de relatie tussen cliënt en zorgbieder. Soms ervaren cliënten daardoor, naast al het goede wat wordt gedaan, dat er leed wordt toegevoegd aan hun bestaande leed. Evenwaardige zorgrelaties en bedrijfseconomisch organiseren komen op gespannen voet met elkaar te staan. Hoe kunnen managers dit spanningsveld beter hanteren en bijdragen aan florerende zorgpraktijken? Om deze vraag in het perspectief van normatieve professionalisering te beantwoorden, zijn binnen drie grote zorginstellingen specifieke mensen opgespoord. Het zijn mensen die opvielen door de goede zorg die zij gestalte geven in combinatie met het bieden van professionele steun in een collegiaal netwerk. Zij creëren op eigen kracht een veilige omgeving voor hun cliënten. Daarbinnen voelen cliënten zich gesterkt in hun zelfvertrouwen en durven zij een stapje in hun persoonlijke groei te zetten. De in dit onderzoek zogenoemde zorgdragers laten zich minder gelegen liggen aan schaduweffecten van marktwerking. In kaart is gebracht hoe acht zorgdragers hun dagelijkse praktijk beleven. Daaruit worden lessen getrokken voor het organiseren van zorg. Dit onderzoek exploreert een praktische oefenweg voor managers, die zorgpraktijken willen laten floreren. De oefenweg is onderbouwd met wetenschappelijke inzichten uit zorgethiek, relationele psychoanalyse en cybernetica van het organiseren. Het perspectief van normatieve professionalisering verbindt deze inzichten met elkaar.

"'Home' represents a fundamental value in a person's life. Although many factors pertaining to his housing situation are beyond the occupant's control, he still attempts to create his own domestic domain, the finite center of a world in which he is free to be himself. As long ago as 1961, in his book 'Supports : An alternative to mass housing', John Habraken suggested a completely different approach to mass housing in the Netherlands. In an effort to offer the occupant of a mass-produced dwelling the opportunity to make a personal statement, he introduced the concept of a separation of support and infill. Habraken sees the support structure as the aspect of housing production that represents communal responsibility, and the infill as the aspect that stands for individual control. He formulated the 'support and infill' concept to introduce variation and personal authority into millions of dwellings. This alternative was to be put into practice by the Foundation for Architects' Research (SAR), which made Habraken its first director. The ambition of the SAR - to radically change the production methods of mass housing - led to concepts and rules of play that had repercussions on the entire building cycle, from architectural design to product development. All the achievements, disappointments, successes, and failures involved in the realization of an alternative to traditional housing construction can be discovered in this book. This volume contains the proceedings of an international conference entitled Lay Bibles in Europe 1450-1800. The conference took place in Amsterdam in April 2004 and was organized by Biblia sacra, a joint Dutch-Flemish research group. The clamor for Bibles in the vernacular flourished within lay renewal movements of the late 14th century, including groups like the Brethren and Sisters of the Common Life. In the early 16th century, humanists like Erasmus and Lefvre d'taples stimulated vernacular Bible reading. As the Protestant Reformation became established, lay Bibles were produced on a large scale. In reaction to this development, Catholic theologians issued 'orthodox' Bible translations in various vernaculars based on the Vulgate. In sum, from the 15th to the 18th century, editions from various confessional or ideological backgrounds appeared throughout Western Europe. Of course, the invention and spread of the printing press greatly enhanced the distribution of these editions. The essays collected in this volume approach Lay Bibles in Europe 1450-1800 from various perspectives, including the history of books, art history and church history.
