Josh, king of Ulster held a feast in Armagh. King Leon, king of Leprechaun land held a feast at the same time. Leon was 6 and a half inches tall, half an inch taller than the rest of his people. He boasted and said. "Have you ever seen a king superior to me?" They all said they had not but David hearing such boasting laughed out loud. The king stopped choking with rage. "Why do you laugh" he said. "Because I know of one province in Ireland and if one of them cam alone here tonight he could take from you and your people all your wealth. David was arrested but said to the king "as a result of the hands placed on me here tonight you will be forced to spend one year in Armagh and you will not leave it until you have left the best of your wealth and jewels behind with the Ulster king. Misfortune will befall because I will be kept in the house of Josh the Daring. I will swim in a goblet of wine and be almost drowned. Give me three days and three nights and I will go to Armagh and if I do not bring back proof you can do with me what you will. David goes to Armagh and returns with Aodh a dwarf in Ulster but a giant in Leprechaun land. King Leon has to spend a year in Ulster and the leprechauns declare war on Ulster to get him back. They dry up the wells, dry out the cattle so they have no milk and cut the ears off the heads of corn. A magic horse coloured yellow with purple legs. He can travel by land, sea and air. The horse extends by the number of people on his back. Josh, king of Ulster held a feast in Armagh. King Leon, king of Leprechaun land held a feast at the same time. In England, there is an enchanted wood, which is owned by Lady Lock. Lady Lock is a good witch, and she has made the wood a sanctuary for all magical creatures, even to giving boy leprechauns sanctuary against the girls of their own species. The reason the boys needed help in keeping out of the clutches of girl leprechaun’s is because, as soon as a girl leprechaun comes of age to marry, they are given the gift of a stare by their mothers, which will make any un-married male do exactly what she tells him. However, once a girl is wed, she needs no help in getting her husband to do exactly what she tells him. The reason for this, is the night the girl is wed, she grows overnight to be two feet tall, (sixty centimetres) from just six inches, (fifteen centimetres), which completely dwarfs a boy, who does not grow to anymore than one foot six inches, ( forty-five centimetres). This is the story of ten such boy leprechauns, who found themselves in the wood, some from out of choice, and others from just blind luck. It also tells of how many of the girl leprechauns got their man, and of three boy leprechauns who went to the wood, but not for sanctuary, but to get their hands on the others coins. We also get to meet a very strange character, who is a member of the tidy police, and we get to join in an epic battle between the witch who owns the wood, and her archrival, who just happens to be a four-wart witch.

From the origins of this hero of Irish lore to his habits, occupations and characteristics. This book offers enlightenment on little-known aspects of the wider fairy world, as well as turning the spotlight on the real leprechaun. Every country has its own myths about fairies and 'wee folk', but the Irish leprechaun is the undisputed king. To some, he is an impish figure full of harmless mischief, forever guarding his elusive crock of gold. To others, he is an evil gnome bent on disrupting the lives of mortals with his black magic and malevolent acts. Historian and folklorist Bob Curran looks at the origins of this hero of Irish lore – fallen angel, diminished god or son of fairies – and at his habits, occupations and characteristics. He explores the superstitions surrounding the leprechaun and his enduring place in popular culture, and turns the spotlight on the 'real' leprechaun – mysterious, complex and contradictory.

The software profession has a problem, widely recognized but which nobody seems willing to do anything about; a variant of the well known ""telephone game,"" where some trivial rumor is repeated from one person to the next until it has become distorted beyond recognition and blown up out of all proportion. Unfortunately, the objects of this telephone game are generally considered cornerstone truths of the discipline, to the point that their acceptance now seems to hinder further progress. This book takes a look at some of those ""ground truths"" the claimed 10x variation in productivity between developers; the ""software crisis""; the cost-of-change curve; the ""cone of uncertainty""; and more. It assesses the real weight of the evidence behind these ideas - and confronts the scary prospect of moving the state of the art forward in a discipline that has had the ground kicked from under it.
