The Primitivist Imaginary In Iberian And Transatlantic Modernisms written by Joana Cunha Leal and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-07 with Art categories.

Taking into account politics, history, and aesthetics, this edited volume explores the main expressions of primitivism in Iberian and Transatlantic modernisms. Ten case studies are thoroughly analyzed concerning both the circulations and exchanges connecting the Iberian and Latin American artistic and literary milieus with each other and with the Parisian circles. Chapters also examine the patterns and paradoxes associated with the manifestations of primitivism, including their local implications and cosmopolitan drive. This book opens up and deepens the discussion of the ties that Spain and Portugal maintained with their imperial pasts, which extended into European twentieth-century colonialism, as well as the nationalist and folk aesthetics promoted by the cultural industry of Iberian dictatorships. The book significantly rethinks long-established ideas about modern art and the production of primitivist imagery. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, Iberian studies, Latin American studies, colonialism, and modernism. From his sensual treatment of Andalusian folk themes to the neoclassical compositions of his later years, de Falla always brought a fierce level of intensity to everything he undertook. This book explores de Falla's life in music in a highly original way. A compelling mix of intimate correspondence, original criticism, rare manuscripts and revealing photographs, it forms a biographical mosaic rich in musical detail and personal insights. A uniquely candid portrait of one of the 20th century's greatest composers. Approved by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Ed. Gonzolo Armero and Jorge de Persia.

Lauded as one of the most important poets and playwrights of the twentieth century, Federico García Lorca was also an accomplished theatre director with a clear process and philosophy of how drama should be staged. Directing both his own work and that of others, Lorca was also closely involved in the rehearsals for productions of many of his plays, and from his own writings and those of his collaborators, a determined agenda to stimulate audiences and renovate theatre can be seen. This is the first book in English to fully consider Lorca as a director and his rehearsal methodology. The book combines: - A biographical account of Lorca’s work as a director and rehearsal leader, revealing his techniques and methods of approach texts; - An exploration of his key writings on and around theatre, drawing on his talks, play introductions, and some of the dramatic works themselves; - The first translation into English of his fragment Dragón; - A detailed discussion of Lorca’s key productions, Lope de Vega’s Fuente Ovejuna (1933) for La Barraca, and his own Yerma (1934). - Specific focus on the practical applications that we can draw from Lorca’s methods, both from what survives of his own work and from the accounts of his close collaborators. As a first step towards critical understanding, and as an initial exploration before going on to further, primary research, Routledge Performance Practitioners offer unbeatable value for today’s student.
