Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Geschichte Deutschlands - 1848, Kaiserreich, Imperialismus, Note: 2,3, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit wird das von China an Deutschland verpachtete Gebiet "Kiautschou" genauer untersucht. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf der Frage, ob es sich eher um eine Musterkolonie oder eine Gewalteskalation handelt. Ausgehend von der Analyse des Handbuchs für das Schutzgebiet Kiautschou, in dem alle geltenden Verordnungen aufgeführt sind, sowie einiger überlieferter Schreiben geht diese Arbeit der Fragestellung nach, in welchem Maß das Konzept der deutschen ‚Musterkolonie‘ in China die Wahrnehmung kolonialer Gewalt beeinflusste. Dabei wird zuerst auf den historischen Kontext eingegangen, um die Rahmenbedingungen, sprich das imperialistische Interesse der westlichen Mächte in China sowie das deutsche Vorgehen bei der Erlangung ihrer Musterkolonie, zu umreißen. Anschließend sollen wesentliche Aspekte des Handbuchs für das Schutzgebiet Kiautschou hinsichtlich der Gewaltanwendung und dessen Zweck in der ‚Musterkolonie‘ analysiert werden, bevor die Realität der kolonialen Gewalt anhand überlieferter Telegramme zwischen chinesischen Beamten und der militärischen Führung im ‚Marine-Hauptsitz‘ Qingdao dargestellt wird. Die aus der Gegenüberstellung dieser Perspektiven gewonnenen Erkenntnisse sollen schließlich Auskunft darüber geben, inwiefern das Ziel, in Kiautschou eine ‚Musterkolonie‘ zu errichten, die Wahrnehmung kolonialer Gewalt beeinflusste. Aufgrund der Komplexität der dieser Arbeit zu Grunde liegenden Thematik und des umfangreichen Literatur- und Quellenbestandes liegt der Fokus der Untersuchung auf den Anfangsjahren bis 1900, in denen das Konzept der ‚Musterkolonie‘ entstanden ist. Des Weiteren eigenen sich die ausgewählten Quellen gut für eine derartige Untersuchung, da mit dem Handbuch eine Art Überblick über die Marine-Akten, die die „Hauptquelle zur jüngsten deutschen Militärgeschichte“ sind, während die erhaltenen Telegramme den Gegenpol zu der deutschen Herrschaftsperspektive bilden. Auf diese Weise soll mit den einseitig tradierten Bildern einer ‚Musterkolonie‘ aus deutscher Sicht und eines „imperialistischen Aggressionsaktes“ aus chinesischer Perspektive gebrochen werden.

This book explores the economic development of the northern Chinese city of Qingdao, which was held by Germany as a colony from 1898 to 1914. It focuses especially on the economic polices of the German colonial government and of the provincial government of the neighbouring Chinese province of Shandong, considering amongst other issues free trade and protection, the impact of the Gold Standard and assistance given to particular companies. The book shows how the Qingdao and Shandong economies fitted into overall East Asian and global trade patterns and how during this period these economies became more fully integrated into the world economy. The book concludes by discussing how although there was a great deal of co-operation between the Qingdao and Shandong governments, there were also growing tensions.
