This collection of four novellas takes the reader back to the days of Jesus, and into the lives of four unnamed women whose stories are some of the most compelling in the Gospels. Included in this compilation are: TRAPPED: THE ADULTEROUS WOMAN When Anna follows the pull of her foolish heart toward a man not her betrothed-husband, she finds herself to be trapped in a web of betrayal...from which only one Man can save her. ALONE: THE WOMAN AT THE WELL All Marah ever thirsted for was a husband to love her, a home of her own. But when life leaves her alone and forsaken, a stranger at the well offers her the acceptance she thought she would never find again. BROKEN: THE WOMAN WHO ANOINTED JESUS'S FEET Tirzah never wanted to follow her mother into the life of a harlot, but the cruel world gives her no other choice. When she hears of Jesus, she knows he can heal her crippled friend...but can he heal Tirzah's broken spirit? HOPELESS: THE WOMAN WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD Zahava has a husband who loves her...but after twelve years of bleeding that has left her unclean and cut off from him, can a forbidden touch give her the hope so long denied her?

Sister Martha Driscoll has wonderfully composed a narrative retelling of selected gospel stories that invite the reader to listen intuitively to the words of Scripture. Each chapter focuses on a single character present in the story--usually a minor one and always a woman--relating the familiar story from her perspective. A written reflection and prayer are provided after each story. Women who direct retreats will find this beautifully pastoral book especially useful, as will individuals making private retreats. This book is open access under a CC BY-NC-ND license. This book reveals exciting early Christian evidence that Mary was remembered as a powerful role model for women leaders—women apostles, baptizers, and presiders at the ritual meal. Early Christian art portrays Mary and other women clergy serving as deacon, presbyter/priest, and bishop. In addition, the two oldest surviving artifacts to depict people at an altar table inside a real church depict women and men in a gender-parallel liturgy inside two of the most important churches in Christendom—Old Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the second Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. Dr. Kateusz’s research brings to light centuries of censorship, both ancient and modern, and debunks the modern imagination that from the beginning only men were apostles and clergy.

There have been many studies of the women in the Gospels, but this is a new kind of book on the subject. Rather than offering a general overview of the Gospel women or focusing on a single theme, Richard Bauckham studies in great depth both the individual women who appear in the Gospels and the specific passages in which they appear. This unique approach reveals that there is much more to be known about such women than previous studies have assumed. Employing historical and literary readings of the biblical texts, Bauckham successfully captures the particularity of each woman he studies. An opening look at the Old Testament book of Ruth introduces the possibilities of reading Scripture from a woman's perspective. Other studies examine the women found in Matthew's genealogies, the prophet Anna, Mary of Clopas, Joanna, Salome, and the women featured in the Gospel resurrection narrative. A number of these women have never been the subject of deep theological enquiry. Unlike most recent books, Bauckham's work is not dominated by a feminist agenda. It does not presume in advance that the Gospel texts support patriarchal oppression, but it does venture some of the new and surprising possibilities that arise when the texts are read from the perspective of their female characters. Astute, sensitive to issues of gender, and written by one of today's leading theologians, Gospel Women will be of interest to a wide range of readers.

Hidden Mark written by John Killinger and has been published by Mercer University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Religion categories.

Well-known preacher and literary scholar John Killinger has combined his talents to provide the most revolutionary study of the Gospel of Mark ever written. On the basis of textual patterns he discovered in a Gospel long believed to be "naive" and "unstudied," Killinger reveals evidence that the two calming-of-the-sea stories traditionally regarded as miracles are actually post-resurrection stories. This explanation not only accounts for the absence of such stories at the end of the Gospel, where the other Gospels place them, but suggests that Mark might actually be a gnostic document, as the gnostics believed in the resurrection of Jesus but did not emphasize his physical resurrection. A gnostic origin for Mark also explains other long-standing enigmas in Mark, including its high opinion of women (the gnostics had women priests); the annoying stupidity of the disciples; the amazing recognition of Jesus' real identity by a blind man; and the so-called Messianic Secret (gnostics wanted to conceal their rites and teachings from outsiders). In this groundbreaking interpretation of the Gospel of Mark, Killinger has given us a reason to reassess the purpose of the Gospel of Mark.
