Hierarchical and Supply Chain Planning describes the application of hierarchical planning techniques to all major functional areas of supply chain planning, including production, distribution, warehousing, transportation, inventory management, forecasting and performance management. The book reviews well-known, original hierarchical production planning techniques and implementations dating back several decades and numerous more current hierarchical planning methods and applications covering an array of supply chain activities. A number of novel hierarchical planning techniques and algorithms covering different components of supply chain planning are offered as is an original approach for integrating supply chain measurements into systems such as the balanced scorecard which evaluate total firm performance. The book covers the interests of private industry practitioners, academic researchers, and students of operations, logistics and supply chain management and planning.

One important feature of these restrictions is that they are syntactic, and therefore do not depend on the particular structure of any plan. Along with these restrictions, we also provide algorithms for reprocessing the planning knowledge of a hierarchical planner. When used during planning, the preprocessed operator heirarchies can enable a planner to significantly reduce its search space."

Efficient supply chain management is essential for maintaining successful workflows within companies. A lack of decisional, organizational, and information integration can lead to increased cost for a business due to missed opportunities, delays, inefficient inventory decisions, poor capacity allocation, and misuse of resources. Companies must employ collaborative practices across all functions of the supply chain in order to avoid costly mishaps. Hierarchical Planning and Information Sharing Techniques in Supply Chain Management is an essential reference source that discusses information exchanges and approaches of coordination related to operation planning for a better understanding of how hierarchical planning techniques and principles can contribute to the effective and efficient management and planning of supply chain activities. Featuring research on topics such as competitive advantages, information sharing, and transport management, this book is ideally designed for managers, academicians, and practitioners in the field of supply chain management, operations management, logistics, and operations research.

"The central fact is that we are planning agents." (M. Bratman, Intentions, Plans, and Practical Reasoning, 1987, p. 2) Recent arguments to the contrary notwithstanding, it seems to be the case that people-the best exemplars of general intelligence that we have to date do a lot of planning. It is therefore not surprising that modeling the planning process has always been a central part of the Artificial Intelligence enterprise. Reasonable behavior in complex environments requires the ability to consider what actions one should take, in order to achieve (some of) what one wants and that, in a nutshell, is what AI planning systems attempt to do. Indeed, the basic description of a plan generation algorithm has remained constant for nearly three decades: given a desciption of an initial state I, a goal state G, and a set of action types, find a sequence S of instantiated actions such that when S is executed instate I, G is guaranteed as a result. Working out the details of this class of algorithms, and making the elabora tions necessary for them to be effective in real environments, have proven to be bigger tasks than one might have imagined.

Hierarchies In Distributed Decision Making written by Christoph Schneeweiss and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Business & Economics categories.

Distributed decision making is described in this book from a hierarchical perspective. A unified approach allows to treat such seemingly diverse fields as multi-level decision making, hierarchical production planning, principal agent theory, hierarchical negotiations, and dynamic games within the framework of a general pair of functional equations. In doing so, the book covers the range from a multi-level one-person decision problem to a multi-person antagonistic planning and leadership situation. These general ideas are illustrated with numerous examples and real-life planning situations. In addition, the treatise provides a theoretical foundation for important problem areas in business administration such as hierarchical production planning, the problems of design and implementation, modern concepts in managerial accounting, and supply chain management.
