Excerpt from Higher Mechanics This book treats of three-dimensional Kinematics, Statics, and Dynamics in what is I think a natural, as I have found it to be a convenient, order. It may be regarded as a sequel to two former treatises to which occasional reference is made; but it is not dependent on these, and will I trust be readily followed by students who are conversant with ordinary two-dimensional Mechanics. The subject is of course a very wide one, and some principle of selection is necessary. I have tried to confine myself to matters of genuine kinematical or dynamical importance, avoiding developments whose interest, often considerable, is purely mathematical or now mainly historical. It is owing to such considerations that whilst some account is given of the Theory of Screws, of Null-Systems, and of Least Action, on the other hand brachistochrone problems, and the general theory of the Differential Equations of Dynamics, are left untouched. The book does not claim to be more than an elementary one, regard being had to the nature of the subject. The reader who wishes to carry his studies further will find ample assistance in Thomson and Tait, in Rayleigh's Theory of Sound, and in Whittaker's Analytical Dynamics. And in common with other recent writers I must mention with a special sense of obligation the works of Routh, which in their later forms are an almost inexhaustible store-house of theorems and results, and abound in interesting historical references. I have to thank Mr J. E. Jones, M.Sc., of the Manchester University, for his assistance in the revision of the proof sheets, and for many valuable suggestions. I am much indebted also to the staff of the Cambridge Press for their careful supervision of the printing, and for calling my attention to various oversights. Mechanical Technology For Higher Engineering Technicians written by Peter Black and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Mechanical Technology for Higher Engineering Technicians deals with the mechanics of machines, thermodynamics, and mechanics of fluids. This book presents discussions and examples that deal with the strength of materials, technology of machines, and techniques used by professional engineers. The book explains the strain energy of torsion, coil springs, and the effects of axial load. The author also discusses the forces that produce bending, shearing, and bending combined with direct stress, as well as beams subjected to a uniform bending moment or simply supported beams with concentrated non-central load. The author explains the equations to determine force in shear stress resulting from a tensile load or how to determine maximum shear stress. He explains Poisson's Ratio, the Mohr Circle, and the theories of Coulomb, Tresca, and Guest. He discusses fluid mechanics, combustion, heat transfer, and troboengineering. He points out that friction between two surfaces causes heat: to avoid the rise in temperature, the two surfaces can be 1) separated with the use of lubricants or bearings, or 2) use of low friction materials. He also discusses the equations used for proportional control, derivative control, and integral control. This book is intended for candidates at the HNC in Mechanical Engineering for qualification as engineering technicians.

The Geometry Of Higher Order Lagrange Spaces written by R. Miron and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Mathematics categories.

This monograph is devoted to the problem of the geometrizing of Lagrangians which depend on higher-order accelerations. It presents a construction of the geometry of the total space of the bundle of the accelerations of order k>=1. A geometrical study of the notion of the higher-order Lagrange space is conducted, and the old problem of prolongation of Riemannian spaces to k-osculator manifolds is solved. Also, the geometrical ground for variational calculus on the integral of actions involving higher-order Lagrangians is dealt with. Applications to higher-order analytical mechanics and theoretical physics are included as well. Audience: This volume will be of interest to scientists whose work involves differential geometry, mechanics of particles and systems, calculus of variation and optimal control, optimization, optics, electromagnetic theory, and biology.

The Geometry Of Higher Order Hamilton Spaces written by R. Miron and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-10-31 with Mathematics categories.

This book is the first to present an overview of higher-orderHamilton geometry with applications to higher-order Hamiltonianmechanics. It is a direct continuation of the book "The Geometry ofHamilton and" "Lagrange Spaces," (Kluwer Academic Publishers,2001). It contains the general theory of higher order Hamilton spaces"H," "k>=1," semisprays, the canonical nonlinearconnection, the N-linear metrical connection and their structureequations, and the Riemannian almost contact metrical model of thesespaces. In addition, the volume also describes new developments suchas variational principles for higher order Hamiltonians; Hamilton-Jacobi equations; higher order energies and law ofconservation; Noether symmetries; Hamilton subspaces of order k andtheir fundamental equations. The duality, via Legendre transformation, between Hamilton spaces of order k and Lagrange spaces of the sameorder is pointed out. Also, the geometry of Cartan spaces of order k=1 is investigated in detail. This theory is useful intheconstruction of geometrical models in theoretical physics, mechanics, dynamical systems, optimal control, biology, economy etc."Audience: " Mathematicians, geometers, physicists and engineers. The volume can be recommended as a supplementary graduate text.
