The most important thing is to write equations in a beautiful form and their success in applications is ensured. Paul Dirac The uniqueness and existence theorems for the solutions of boundary and initial value problems for systems of high-order partial differential equations (PDE) are sufficiently well known. In this book, the problems considered are those whose solutions can be represented in quadratures, i.e., in an effective form. Such problems have remarkable applications in mathematical physics, the mechanics of deformable bodies, electro magnetism, relativistic quantum mechanics, and some of their natural generalizations. Almost all such problems can be set in the context of Clifford analysis. Moreover, they can be obtained without applying any physical laws, a circumstance that gives rise to the idea that Clifford analysis itself can suggest generalizations of classical equations or new equations altogether that may have some physical content. For that reason, Clifford analysis represents one of the most remarkable fields in modem mathematics as well as in modem physics.

Functional analysis is not only a tool for unifying mathematical analysis, but it also provides the background for today's rapid development of the theory of partial differential equations. Using concepts of functional analysis, the field of complex analysis has developed methods (such as the theory of generalized analytic functions) for solving very general classes of partial differential equations. This book is aimed at promoting further interactions of functional analysis, partial differential equations, and complex analysis including its generalizations such as Clifford analysis. New interesting problems in the field of partial differential equations concern, for instance, the Dirichlet problem for hyperbolic equations. Applications to mathematical physics address mainly Maxwell's equations, crystal optics, dynamical problems for cusped bars, and conservation laws. remove /a remove

This volume is a collection of manscripts mainly originating from talks and lectures given at the Workshop on Recent Trends in Complex Methods for Par tial Differential Equations held from July 6 to 10, 1998 at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, sponsored by The Scientific and Tech nical Research Council of Turkey and the Middle East Technical University. This workshop is a continuation oftwo workshops from 1988 and 1993 at the In ternational Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy entitled Functional analytic Methods in Complex Analysis and Applications to Partial Differential Equations. Since classical complex analysis of one and several variables has a long tra dition it is of high level. But most of its basic problems are solved nowadays so that within the last few decades it has lost more and more attention. The area of complex and functional analytic methods in partial differential equations, however, is still a growing and flourishing field, in particular as these methods are not only applied. Whithin the framework of holomorphic functions but are also combined with properties of generalized analytic functions. This can be seen by the many books which recently were published in this field and also by the proceedings in this ISAAC series and the ISAAC congresses and workshops.

Clifford analysis, a branch of mathematics that has been developed since about 1970, has important theoretical value and several applications. In this book, the authors introduce many properties of regular functions and generalized regular functions in real Clifford analysis, as well as harmonic functions in complex Clifford analysis. It covers important developments in handling the incommutativity of multiplication in Clifford algebra, the definitions and computations of high-order singular integrals, boundary value problems, and so on. In addition, the book considers harmonic analysis and boundary value problems in four kinds of characteristic fields proposed by Luogeng Hua for complex analysis of several variables. The great majority of the contents originate in the authors’ investigations, and this new monograph will be interesting for researchers studying the theory of functions.

International ISAAC (International Society for Analysis, its Applications and Computation) Congresses have been held every second year since 1997. The proceedings report on a regular basis on the progresses of the field in recent years, where the most active areas in analysis, its applications and computation are covered. Plenary lectures also highlight recent results. This volume concentrates mainly on partial differential equations, but also includes function spaces, operator theory, integral transforms and equations, potential theory, complex analysis and generalizations, stochastic analysis, inverse problems, homogenization, continuum mechanics, mathematical biology and medicine. With over 350 participants attending the congress, the book comprises 140 papers from 211 authors. The volume also serves for transferring personal information about the ISAAC and its members. This volume includes citations for O Besov, V Burenkov and R P Gilbert on the occasion of their anniversaries.

Homogenization Of Partial Differential Equations written by Vladimir A. Marchenko and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-22 with Mathematics categories.
Homogenization is a method for modeling processes in microinhomogeneous media, which are encountered in radiophysics, filtration theory, rheology, elasticity theory, and other domains of mechanics, physics, and technology. These processes are described by PDEs with rapidly oscillating coefficients or boundary value problems in domains with complex microstructure. From the technical point of view, given the complexity of these processes, the best techniques to solve a wide variety of problems involve constructing appropriate macroscopic (homogenized) models. The present monograph is a comprehensive study of homogenized problems, based on the asymptotic analysis of boundary value problems as the characteristic scales of the microstructure decrease to zero. The work focuses on the construction of nonstandard models: non-local models, multicomponent models, and models with memory. Along with complete proofs of all main results, numerous examples of typical structures of microinhomogeneous media with their corresponding homogenized models are provided. Graduate students, applied mathematicians, physicists, and engineers will benefit from this monograph, which may be used in the classroom or as a comprehensive reference text.

This book pursues to exhibit how we can construct a Clifford type algebra from the classical one. The basic idea of these lecture notes is to show how to calculate fundamental solutions to either first-order differential operators of the form D=∑_(i=0)^n▒〖e_i δ_i〗or second-order elliptic differential operators ̄D D, both with constant coefficients or combinations of this kind of operators. After considering in detail how to find the fundamental solution we study the problem of integral representations in a classical Clifford algebra and in a dependent-parameter Clifford algebra which generalizes the classical one. We also propose a basic method to extend the order of the operator, for instance D^n,n∈N and how to produce integral representations for higher order operators and mixtures of them. Although the Clifford algebras have produced many applications concerning boundary value problems, initial value problems, mathematical physics, quantum chemistry, among others; in this book we do not discuss these topics as they are better discussed in other courses. Researchers and practitioners will find this book very useful as a source book. The reader is expected to have basic knowledge of partial differential equations and complex analysis. When planning and writing these lecture notes, we had in mind that they would be used as a resource by mathematics students interested in understanding how we can combine partial differential equations and Clifford analysis to find integral representations. This in turn would allow them to solve boundary value problems and initial value problems. To this end, proofs have been described in rigorous detail and we have included numerous worked examples. On the other hand, exercises have not been included.
