An Introduction To Traffic Flow Theory written by Lily Elefteriadou and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-20 with Mathematics categories.
This second edition of An Introduction to Traffic Flow Theory adds new material in several chapters related to advanced technologies including autonomy, the use of sensors and communications, and particularly congestion mitigation solutions that leverage connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). It also includes a new chapter that briefly outlines several mathematical analysis techniques commonly used in traffic flow theory, aiming to introduce students to some of the most frequently used tools available for traffic operational-related analysis. This new edition also includes several updates related to the most recent versions of the Highway Capacity Manual and the Green Book. This textbook is meant for use in advanced undergraduate/graduate level courses in traffic flow theory with prerequisites including two semesters of calculus, statistics, and an introductory course in transportation. The text would also be of interest to transportation professionals as a refresherin traffic flow theory or as a reference. Students and engineers of diverse backgrounds will find this text accessible and applicable to today’s traffic issues. This text provides a comprehensive and concise treatment of the topic of traffic flow theory and includes several topics relevant to today’s highway transportation system. It provides the fundamental principles of traffic flow theory as well as applications of those principles for evaluating specific types of facilities (freeways, intersections, etc.). Newer concepts of Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and their potential impact on traffic flow are discussed. State-of-the-art traffic flow research, microscopic traffic analysis, and traffic simulation have significantly advanced and are also discussed in this text. Real-world examples and useful problem sets complement each chapter.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have transformed surface transportation networks through the integration of advanced communications and computing technologies into the transportation infrastructure. ITS technologies have improved the safety and mobility of the transportation network through advanced applications such as electronic toll collection, in-vehicle navigation systems, collision avoidance systems, and advanced traffic management systems, and advanced traveler information systems. In this book that focuses on different ITS technologies and applications, authors from several countries have contributed chapters covering different ITS technologies, applications, and management practices with the expectation that the open exchange of scientific results and ideas presented in this book will lead to improved understanding of ITS technologies and their applications.

Get a complete look into modern traffic engineering solutions Traffic Engineering Handbook, Seventh Edition is a newly revised text that builds upon the reputation as the go-to source of essential traffic engineering solutions that this book has maintained for the past 70 years. The updated content reflects changes in key industry standards, and shines a spotlight on the needs of all users, the design of context-sensitive roadways, and the development of more sustainable transportation solutions. Additionally, this resource features a new organizational structure that promotes a more functionally-driven, multimodal approach to planning, designing, and implementing transportation solutions. A branch of civil engineering, traffic engineering concerns the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along roadways. Traffic flow, road geometry, sidewalks, crosswalks, cycle facilities, shared lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights, and more—all of these elements must be considered when designing public and private sector transportation solutions. Explore the fundamental concepts of traffic engineering as they relate to operation, design, and management Access updated content that reflects changes in key industry-leading resources, such as the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), AASSHTO Policy on Geometric Design, Highway Safety Manual (HSM), and Americans with Disabilities Act Understand the current state of the traffic engineering field Leverage revised information that homes in on the key topics most relevant to traffic engineering in today's world, such as context-sensitive roadways and sustainable transportation solutions Traffic Engineering Handbook, Seventh Edition is an essential text for public and private sector transportation practitioners, transportation decision makers, public officials, and even upper-level undergraduate and graduate students who are studying transportation engineering.

Indonesia as an emerging country has a lot of traffic bottleneck challenges on urban road networks including in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province. It is due to high traffic demand and limited supply of roadway. Consequently, traffic congestion leads to several externalities such as unnecessary travel times, air pollution, energy consumption, and driver frustration. An unsystematic bottleneck defines as a bottleneck that is without any changes in roadway geometric, and sometimes refers to hidden or virtual bottlenecks. Therefore, I wrote a basic traffic engineering book emphasizing the dynamic capacity method with application on virtual bottlenecks assessments. This book is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate civil engineers particularly dealing with traffic planning and operation at the virtual bottlenecks. This book is essentially distinguished into six chapters. Chapter I and II deals with the traffic mechanism at unsystematic bottlenecks and its theoretical foundation for assessing the speed and capacity drops due to an active unsystematic bottleneck. The fundamental theory of static and dynamic approaches has been comprehensively discussed in this part. The following part of the chapter, III-VI covers practical assessment by considering U-turn and On-street parking bottlenecks as case studies including simulation methods to determine measures of the effectiveness of the design improvements. Data preparation, observation, analysis, and simulation are broadly deliberated for easy understanding for undergraduate and postgraduate university students. While this book is further intended for traffic engineering practitioners. I suppose that it will also be worth practicing for traffic and transport engineers as designers or planners.
