This was first published in English as "Prison of Conscience". It is now presented in Afaan Oromo with some addition and expansion. For the Oromo nation the more than a hundred years of Amaaraa Ethiopian occupation had been a hell. Killings, tortures and disappearances were common place. Their land was grabbed, their culture erased, their language suppressed, they were turned to serfs and their identity was denied, their freedom deprived. Relentless struggle was waged to reverse the situation and much had been achieved towards it. This book is about experience of a prisoner who went under the most inhuman treatment in torture rooms and isolated from the world for about ten years. And also, about empire Ethiopia that knows no human rights and even human conscience was kept under suppression. All about the empire and Darg prison are contained in two volumes of this book in brief. The said prisoner had a chance to revisit Maa'ikalaawii under EPRDF government that replaced the Darg. List of prisoners of the previous detention is also given as appendix. Read it and there are more to discover. The earliest registered civilization is probably the civilization of Cushitic speaking peoples spearheaded by ancient Egypt. The Oromo are of the Cushitic speaking stock. Missing links of that civilization are hoped to be found in the language and culture of the Oromo nation of East Africa. It is not too late for researchers of ancient civilizations to turn their attention towards East Africa, specifically Oromia. The first step towards this may be learning their language. This little book will offer you that opportunity. It is presented in a possible easy but sure way to help you understand its basics.

Complementizers may be defined as conjunctions that have the function of identifying clauses as complements. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that they have additional functions. Some of these functions are semantic in the sense that they represent conventional contributions to the meanings of the complements. The present book puts a focus to these semantic complementizer functions.

The Teeth And Claws Of The Buddha written by Mikael S. Adolphson and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-28 with History categories.

Japan’s monastic warriors have fared poorly in comparison to the samurai, both in terms of historical reputation and representations in popular culture. Often maligned and criticized for their involvement in politics and other secular matters, they have been seen as figures separate from the larger military class. However, as Mikael Adolphson reveals in his comprehensive and authoritative examination of the social origins of the monastic forces, political conditions, and warfare practices of the Heian (794–1185) and Kamakura (1185–1333) eras, these "monk-warriors"(sôhei) were in reality inseparable from the warrior class. Their negative image, Adolphson argues, is a construct that grew out of artistic sources critical of the established temples from the fourteenth century on. In deconstructing the sôhei image and looking for clues as to the characteristics, role, and meaning of the monastic forces, The Teeth and Claws of the Buddha highlights the importance of historical circumstances; it also points to the fallacies of allowing later, especially modern, notions of religion to exert undue influence on interpretations of the past. It further suggests that, rather than constituting a separate category of violence, religious violence needs to be understood in its political, social, military, and ideological contexts.

This thesis provides a new approach to the Ethiopian Land Law debate. The basic argument made in this thesis is that even if the Ethiopian Constitution provides and guarantees common ownership of land (together with the state) to the people, this right has not been fully realized whether in terms of land accessibility, enjoyability, and payment of fair compensation in the event of expropriation. Expropriation is an inherent power of the state to acquire land for public purpose activities. It is an important development tool in a country such as Ethiopia where expropriation remains the only method to acquire land. Furthermore, the two preconditions of payment of fair compensation and existence of public purpose justifications are not strictly followed in Ethiopia. The state remains the sole beneficiary of the process by capturing the full profit of land value, while paying inadequate compensation to those who cede their land by expropriation. Secondly, the broader public purpose power of the state in expropriating the land for unlimited activities puts the property owners under imminent risk of expropriation.

Children Of Hope written by Sandra Rowoldt Shell and has been published by Ohio University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-20 with History categories.

In Children of Hope, Sandra Rowoldt Shell traces the lives of sixty-four Oromo children who were enslaved in Ethiopia in the late-nineteenth century, liberated by the British navy, and ultimately sent to Lovedale Institution, a Free Church of Scotland mission in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, for their safety. Because Scottish missionaries in Yemen interviewed each of the Oromo children shortly after their liberation, we have sixty-four structured life histories told by the children themselves. In the historiography of slavery and the slave trade, first passage narratives are rare, groups of such narratives even more so. In this analytical group biography (or prosopography), Shell renders the experiences of the captives in detail and context that are all the more affecting for their dispassionate presentation. Comparing the children by gender, age, place of origin, method of capture, identity, and other characteristics, Shell enables new insights unlike anything in the existing literature for this region and period. Children of Hope is supplemented by graphs, maps, and illustrations that carefully detail the demographic and geographic layers of the children’s origins and lives after capture. In this way, Shell honors the individual stories of each child while also placing them into invaluable and multifaceted contexts.
