In this bright, sunny book by author, Kelli Sue Landon, we are taken on a journey to The Land of Landu. We meet, Dhahabu, a squirrel who is also the queen, and what a lovely queen she is. As we travel along we met, Olu, the owl gatekeeper, and Rabbu a rabbit who loves to play name games, and many others. Each one is portrayed in bright colors and friendly faces. Each of the animals along the way have a job and give unto the community their special talent, filling the needs needed to keep all happy. Each is important and accepted and loved, and that is a very important point. This is a very colorful, upbeat book showing children the unity of a community and how each occupant plays an important role and the friendship that should be exchanged among the occupants. This book critically examines various facets of conflicts involving people and the state arising due to the uneven distribution of natural resources. It provides an overview of the people’s movements in Odisha, a resource-rich state in eastern India. Reflecting on the conceptual frameworks of conflict, it analyses violence, and struggle for rights over resources, and public policies around natural resources, alongside local strategies and governance. Drawing from extensive field surveys in the villages of Kalahandi and undivided Koraput districts in Odisha, this volume explores the sociopolitical and economical aspects of people’s movements instead of solely viewing them as political and security threats. The authors demonstrate the misappropriations of these movements by both the state and non-state actors for their vested interests. This book offers recommendations for policymakers to draw up a more ready response to mitigate and minimize the conflict and violence and implement equitable policies around land and resources. While doing so, the book also provides some primers to development perspectives, the role of natural resources and conditions under which the natural resources can result in conflict, and principles and practices to overcome such conflicts. This book presents a controlled evaluation of three widely practised syntactic theories on the basis of the extremely complex agreement system of Archi, an endangered Nakh-Daghestanian language. Even straightforward agreement examples are puzzling for syntacticians because agreement involves both redundancy and arbitrariness. Agreement is a significant source of syntactic complexity, exacerbated by the great diversity of its morphological expression. Imagine how the discipline of linguistics would be if expert practitioners of different theories met in a collaborative setting to tackle such challenging agreement data - to test the limits of their models and examine how the predictions of their theories differ given the same linguistic facts. Following an overview of the essentials of Archi grammar and an introduction to the remarkable agreement phenomena found in this language, three distinct accounts of the Archi data examine the tractability and predictive power of major syntactic theories: Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar, Lexical Functional Grammar, and Minimalism. The final chapter compares the problems encountered and the solutions proposed in the different syntactic analyses and outlines the implications of the challenges that the Archi agreement system poses for linguistic theory.
