O ebook Religiões na História do Brasil propõe uma releitura da trajetória religiosa que acompanha a história do Brasil. A proposta desta obra tem em vista as perspectivas para o futuro da diversidade religiosa no cenário brasileiro atual. A obra nos faz perceber que o pluralismo religioso, mesmo que não praticado abertamente nos diferentes períodos da história do Brasil, foi pouco a pouco se consolidando em nossa sociedade.

História das Religiões é uma síntese abrangente e inédita para o público brasileiro da perspectiva histórico-religiosa realizada pela Escola Italiana de História das Religiões. Na primeira parte, são oferecidos os fundamentos básicos dessa disciplina e metodologia de estudos extremamente profícua e urgente, não somente para o estudante do curso de História, mas geralmente para o de Ciências Sociais: tendo em vista a urgência do restabelecimento de um diálogo entre várias disciplinas e vertentes. A obra utiliza, entre outros recursos analíticos, a tradução de alguns textos basilares, fundadores e exemplares desse percurso metodológico da escola Histórico-Religiosa. No interior desse percurso, destaca-se a articulação entre Antropologia e História, a qual fez surgir tanto uma comparação sistemática entre culturas quanto a História das Religiões. A obra percorre, em termos gerais, as etapas, historicamente determinadas e cada vez prioritárias, dos respectivos códigos de Direito, Religião, Civilização e Antropologia: neles se inscreve um percurso - não linear, evidentemente, mas historicamente complexo - através do qual se estruturou o caminho caracteristicamente universalizante e inclusivo do Ocidente. No interior desse percurso foi se impondo, de fato, a articulação cada vez mais significativa entre Antropologia e História que viu surgir, de um lado, a exigência de uma comparação sistemática entre culturas (histórica e diferentemente orientadas) e, de outro lado, com a exigência dessa comparação, a História das Religiões.

Religion is fundamental to contemporary Puerto Rican society. From the cosmology of the Indigenous Taíno, to the wide range of Judeo-Christian churches and sects, to the practitioners of spiritism, Afro-Caribbean religions, and witchcraft, religious practice in its many forms permeates the lives of most Puerto Ricans. Communities of the Soul illuminates the landscape and history of religion in Puerto Rico from the beliefs and practices of the Taíno to the religious diversity of the present day. Throughout its history, religion in Puerto Rico has braided institutional forms and popular practices, yet has always been a community-based process – made by the people. When the island was under Spanish colonial rule, the formal but weak presence of Catholicism meant that Puerto Ricans cultivated their religious experiences within families and local communities as much as within the structures of the church. These communal practices continued as Puerto Ricans joined Protestant denominations – particularly evangelical Pentecostalism – after the American conquest of the island in 1898. In the second half of the twentieth century, religious diversity increased with the formation of Jewish and Muslim communities, as well as numerous local evangelical congregations. Even as Puerto Rican society becomes more cosmopolitan and diverse, popular devotions and ritualistic practices remain an important part of everyday life. The first synthesis of the religious history of the island, Communities of the Soul is an innovative exploration of religion in Puerto Rico and the beliefs, practices, and diversity of its past and present.
