Los mal afectos d la Compania han lla mado inmensas riquezas d estos bienes. En esta Historia dara cuenta de ellos y de su inversion, con tales datos, que seria temeridad pretenderlos recusar. Para que puedas, mi amado lector, apreciar debidamente cuanto hicie ron los hijos de la Compania en este pais, no solo te descubrira el estado en que lo encontraron al tiempo en que entraron en sino tambien el que sucesivamente fue teniendo hasta su expulsion. Con el mismo objeto te ira dando una narracion sucinta, pero clara y terminante, de los he chos politicos que al mismo tiempo se fueron veri/icand0, extendiendome algun tanto en la de aquellos en que ellos tuvieron parte notable, y reli riendo con mayor laconismo los demas. Felizmente he logrado esclarecer varios puntos de importancia relativos d la parte civil, los cuales Mr. Gay y otros escritores de la Historia general de Chile o' equivocaron o pasaron en silencio y los consignara aqui en sus lugares respectivos, por amor a la verdad. Quizas no faltara quien por esta parte aprecie mi Historia, ya que no la aprecie por su objeto principal. Protesta desde luego que la he escrito con toda sinceridad, cuidando mucho de no dejarme llevar de 'las simpatias connaturales al corazon humano, ni del afecto que profeso a la Corporacion, d que por la misericordia de Dios pertenezco. Asi es que no te ocultare las faltas de nuestros Padres antiguos, que kubieren llegado mi noticia, ni disimulare los defectos de que en ciertas epocas adolecio' esta Provincia.
